engine mount failure

In the process of changing my 5th gear synchro, I decided to fix my annoying oil pan leak and found this broken engine mount. Not sure if it being saturated in oil all the time led to its failure but I only have 55k on the odometer and the car has not been abused.

Jim

if you buy them new from mazda...you will pay about $550 for both. ask around on the forum for a used one. i bought one anout 3 weeks ago from someone on the forum.

jkekeisen Dec 8, 2002 10:53 AM

Thanks sorry I misread your first post. I thought you said "got one" as in you had one, not "get one" used.

ive got two spare used motor mounts. I think one is a bit more worn than the other and the other is in good condition. I'll take a pic of them if you need them or one

jkekeisen Dec 8, 2002 08:28 PM

BlackR1, are you selling them?

can't you buy ceramic mounts? How do they fair compaired to the factory ones?

jkekeisen Dec 9, 2002 07:29 AM

Do you mean ceramic? Or did you mean urethane? I've never heard of anything made out of ceramic that was supposed to dampen anything. The urethane ones which are sold on the Rx7trix site look to be simply a urethane block mounted to the original metal arm (they require your core). And at $500 they are laughing all the way to the bank.

I know you might not want to use this method, but
I know a fellow FD owner here in Japan that used stationary gears as motor mounts. However, they are 5mm too tall. All you need to do is have a machine shop machine them down 5mm to fit just like the stock ones. This method is a solid, non vibration dampenind rigid mounts. Or just buy another set of mounts from someone. just my $.02

There are some replies that are missing from this thread, I guess when the site was down they had to restore an earlier version? I went back to look for that steel engine mount p/n and that reply is gone. What's going on? Any ideas?

hockey pucks work great too, and cost almost nothing and stiffer than stock. May have to replace sooner, but no big deal there.

i thought there were more posts in this thread. what gives. forum, more unreliable then our cars...except mine.
