Engine Mount/Bolt Problem (need help)
Hi Guys,
I need help from the RX7 experts. I just dropped in my JDM swap into my FD roller yesterday. On the drivers side engine mount (the round ones that drop into the sub frame) the bolt is loose and just spins freely. The passenger side one is fine and does not move so I can tighten the nut on the bottom of that one easily but for some reason the drivers side bolt is just loose and can be spun easily by hand making it impossible to put the nut on it and tighten it in place. Are these bolts actually part of the mount and welded in place to keep them from moving and I basically need a new drivers side mount or is this something I can fix on my existing mount? Is the bolt able to be tightened if I jack up the motor to access it? Any help or advice would be appreciated. |
Most likely the mount is broken. The stud is cast into the mount, if it's spinning, it could be the mount itself is broken and spinning or the stud has broken off inside the mount. Regardless, you need another mount.
Either get a good stock mount or get aftermarket mounts. The aftermarket mounts will transmit more vibration to the car but they seem to last longer. Dale |
Where in PA are you, I have two rubber OEM mounts laying around (for the steel brackets). Im in Scranton, going to be out in Stroudsburg/Mt. Pocono today though.

I assume the bolt is part of the rubber OEM mounts correct (because without the bolt it will do me no good)? Would you sell one cheap/ship (18929)? I guess I only need 1 since the passenger side is fine. I have Paypal if you could do it that way. Shoot me a PM and a pic of the mounts if you can. I assume they are interchangeable between the left mount and right mount? Thanks! |
They may or may not be the same on both sides. Some cars have one steel and one aluminum bracket, with the aluminum one being the driver side. If your car has steel brackets on both sides the mounts I have will work. I will PM you pictures of the mounts and one of the brackets to show the difference.
