Engine management question
 

I am looking for an engine management system to run in my FD... Does anyone have any info on the new GReddy EManage Ultimate... from what I have read it sounds like it's just a piggy back system with the functions of a stand alone unit. I was wondering, being that it's a third of the price of most stand alone units how effective is the EManage compared to say an AEM or HKS stand alone unit??

You don't want to use any of those on an FD....stick with the Apexi Power FC. Other than the A/C issue, it is the most user friendly and drivable of the standalones and requires no installation work. Combined with the datalogit, it is a very powerful and easy to use ECU and will run anything short of a full out race car (drag).

So why is it better to use a piggyback system than a stand alone on an FD?

I'm a big E-manage fan (started the Yahoo! Groups E-manage list, etc.), but the E-manage just flat doesn't work well on the FD. I've covered the topic ad infinitum in other posts, but the long and short of it is the way the FD's stock ECU is set up, you'd need to pull a bunch of hacks out of your butt to make the E-manage give you some measure of proper control.

After you buy the E-manage and all the adapters to make it work right, you've spent the money for a PowerFC. PFC's are as low as $700-750 now brand new with commander - there's just no good reason not to run one. Not only is it a totally flexible standalone system, but it's literally plug in and drive. The base map is superb and supports many simple bolt-on mods, while also giving better than stock driveability and NO 3000 RPM hesistation.
