Engine Management

I just got my FD and plan to slightly modify it for this summer, then go with a TO4 next summer.

My question is, which engine management system could be used as a piggy back and also be utilized as a standalone when I decide to go single turbo? Someone mentioned the HKS F Con.. But there are several ones.

I've never heard of a piggyback that can act as a standalone.. most are either or... most people here will reccomend the Power FC by Apexi, I am playing with the AEM unit personally... I think it's a superior more modern box... allthough less supported by the rotorhead here... Custumer support is actually better since they're made in the states and supported here (California)

Apexi Power FC. It is a standalone that works very well for a streetcar. As Dcrosby pointed out, the AEM unit is very good but has much less forum member support. The nice thing with the Power FC is that it comes with a pretty damn good base map for the typical bolt-ons. The AEM/Haltech don't and will require a tuner just to get you running.

HKS FCON VPRO can act as both piggyback and standalone. I think I read that people have done the same with a Haltech.

Thats the one. I'm going to have to do more research on that. Thanks for refreshing my memory!

ive heard the HKS V Pro was hard to tune. Who is authorized to tune them? Would i have to go to a specific shop?

Nameless Feb 13, 2004 09:07 PM

Its not that its hard to tune only certain shops can tune it. SP engineering, and Signal are 2 of the shops in my area that can tune it.

Power FC. With the datalogit, it became very user friendly.

I would LOVE to try the new AEM unit, but here in Japan, there's no support at all.

Haltech, Microtech, Autotronics and TEC III are others that have shown to be proven winners also.

Andwhy do you want a piggy pack and not just buy the PFC which is standalone and well supported and even cheaper than the Fcon ?
