Engine let go

Ok so i was driving the other day and noticed white smoke coming from my exhaust...a sickening feeling... me being the not so smart , drive the car home and park it, by the time i get in the drive way the car does the paint shaker dance of doom and dies...assuming the worst and knowing im new with rotary engines....im guessing its dead... I will pull and reinstall the engine...I have looked at gotham racing engines and the pettit... any feedback... i need an agressive street port for the mods on my fd...Any general information on this would be apriciated..and yes i searched , but all of the threads were from 04...thanks in advance - Dale

First check the MAP sensor.

Then if that's not the problem, get a compression test done. Don't pull the engine until you know you need to.

Doesn't make them any less valid. The engines were still the same then as they are now...

Yes, check the map and for any codes. Before anything, how many miles on the last rebuild? And when was the last tune up?

Defc0n 03-06-06 06:50 PM

Thanks for all the help guys...The white smoke is THICK....and the engine if i were to compare feels like a v8 hitting on only 2 cylinders... The car was tuned up recently , there is 114,000 on car , and aprox 30,000 on rebuilt....and turbos...

Thick white smoke may mean a bad coolant seal (requires rebuild to fix properly, tho temporary fixes sometimes work). Missing could mean plugs fouled by coolant. If it was bad enuf for a lot of white smoke and causing a miss, you should have lost a noticeable amount of coolant. Did you?

if it needs a build... you can do it yourself.
i did this from almost zero knowledge, and now i know plenty.

depends on time, tools and budget but i'd recommend getting to know your engine.
so far, nothing beats the feeling of beating an Misti Evolution in a car that I BUILT!

Defc0n 03-06-06 07:14 PM

Yeah im big on doing it myself.... the first thing i did was change the plugs , wich WERE fouled horribly... after i changed and reset the computer it still runs like crap.. doesent idle... shakes the crap out of me...and smokes like mad...

Just checked coolant...full....damnit...

ProjectD 03-07-06 05:07 AM

Did you check the MAP sensor like someone mentioned earlier? i knocked mine off somehow when i did my forst spark plug change and it scared the shit out of me when i started it up lol.

Oh yea check your compression also. Good luck

Do you have a vacuum/boost gauge in the car? What vacuum is it pulling at idle? Did the car overheat at all? What does the smoke smell like?
You need to do a compression test. If the compression checks out and you have no coolant loss, then you need to check out the fuel injectors and ignition coils.
If one of your injectors is stuck open your car will only run on one rotor making

Actually, by happy it's full. Coolant loss could mean a bad coolant seal and a rebuild...

Where in NJ do you live?

Defc0n 03-07-06 12:51 PM

Ok guys... im so glad i posted before i went ahead and ordered an engine...the vaccum line on the bottom of the map was dissconnected... i popped it back on and it was fine...just when i idle (or hold the car at idle so it doesent die.) theres alot of white smoke...no coolant is missing , im going to dissconnect the battery for 20 mins then reconnect and drive like 20 miles... i may have to restet my power FC... but i apriciate the help and any suggestions incase the reset doesent help the smoke? - D
