Engine Harness Replacement
 

I had an engine fire and need a new Engine Wiring Harness for my 93 FD. It is a manual Trans. Cannot afford to buy a new one from dealer. Any advise would be appreciated.

Not sure what you're looking for here.....take a gamble with a used one I suppose. Pay special attention to the Crank Angle Sensor connectors and all four fuel injector connectors.

Don't you have insurance on the car? The insurance should be covering all the repairs minus the deductible. If you don't have insurance, well, you're an idiot. :)

Post an ad in the classifieds to try to find a used one but I wouldn't go used on a harness. Better to just spend the $700 and not mess around.

It isn't worth the money to save. I used to buy them from Mazdaspeed for ~$595 or something like that. I think the price is $700 or so now, it is worth every penny.

750.00 from Ray @ Malloy. if you need a new one. dont get it used, i think youll like the results of a new one iam getting one for my rebuild just because of heat and age.. all the little connections/wires are brittle and cracked

I just finished fully stripping the sheathing off a 70K mile old harness, there where at least a dozen areas where the wire insulation had cracked through to the wiring.

All injector connectors and several of the other connectors had to be replaced one by one, then the entire thing was re-wrapped with self fusing silicone tape.

This took nearly 10 hours. Finnaly I cleaned all of the connectors with plastic safe cleaner and tested resistance across all of them back to the ECU plug. The finished product will work as good as new but is a far less elegant.

I wish I would have just shelled out the 750 from Malloy, and bought a new one.

If you do buy a new one, it would absolutly be worth it to fully wrap over top the stock tape and sheathing with a layer of silicone tape followed by a layer of heat tape.

I am currently re-wrapping my harness. where do you get your heat tape? and silicone tape? also, what would be the best way to layer it all up?

What type of wire are you guys using when a section has to be replaced?

In my case I had 2 used JDM 13b-re harness's partially cut. They must have really been out of extreme low mileage engines as the importers claim because the wiring and sheathing was soft not hardened or discollered at all. Most of the connectors where the same (slightly different't arangments). So I cut the offending plugs from the rew harness and replaced them with re wire and plug as far back as I could. In most cases 10" or more back from the plug. This eliminated all of the area's that had previously been exposed in the hotest sections.

Sorry to bump old thread, but what kind of resistance values did you get when you tested back to ECU?
