Engine harness install
I'm putting the car bak together and I am having throuble with the engine harness.. it seems that pulling it back through the firewall doesn't work quite well.. it unevenly gets pulled through.. any one have any suggestions on how to evenly pull the harness? thank.. reallly reallly need help on this one. and probably many many more....

Well, you might try, pushing only ecu side of the harness through the firewall. Then have somebody on the inside pull it to give it some pressure. And push on the outside, till that gromet seals on the firewall. To get to it the easiest possible way, you'd have to take out all the ABS stuff, which I wasn't interested in doing.
Anyhow, thats how I did it. |
Lube it up a little, I use Armor All or Windex on the boot first then I use two long prybars with big flat tips and push it in at the bottom first.
It'll take you 30 sec once you get the hang of it. |
I've done it one time and did as turbojeff says. Slip the connectors into the cabin first and then lube up the large rubber grommet; I used dish soap because I knew I could easily clean it off again. Slip the bottom of the grommet in first and then use the longest screw driver you have to pop the rest of it in from the top.
Isn't that bad if you lube the rubber first. |

I keep a (labeled) spray bottle filled with a solution of water & dish soap in the garage. It comes in handy for stuff like you're working on, installing/removing hoses, exhaust hangers, etc.

The key is to use a non-petroleum based lube on rubber;).
