Engine gurgling sounds?

So I was driving my FD around for about a half hr or so, cool night, 60 degrees’ish, but when I got home and parked it in my garage after it had been shut off for a few minutes I heard a gurgling sound coming from the engine bay. It almost sounded as if the engine coolant was boiling. Temp gauges were within normal limits, but what could it be? I know it’s def not normal

IMO, it is normal, especially if a stock or near stock car. I have owned my FD new since 1994. This happened almost every time I stopped the car after a longer drive for over ten years. Only after modifying the radiator and pressure cap years later did it stop.

Thank you for the input, it is pretty much stock as far as the engine goes, I knew rotaries ran hot but it sounds like it’s boiling the coolant lol

It probably is locally boiling the coolant, especially if the 13-psi radiator cap was installed. There was a recall in ~1994 substituting this for the original higher-pressure cap in order to make the coolant seals and, IIRC, the turbo coolant hoses less prone to failure. That is normal, especially if the lower temperature FC cooling-fan switch is not installed.

I’ve read about the fc fan switch on here, sounds like I should go that route soon, I haven’t heard about the radiator cap, I have a 92 FD, should I look into a different cap?

I've been running a 13-psi cap forever and it has caused no issues. If you change to the FC thermoswitch, almost all the gurgling /boiling will be gone.

Ok definitely gonna try that, appreciate the input guys, I’ll follow up once it’s done
