Engine Grounding
My friend sugested that I reground my engine. Any thoughts on this my friends?

I have heard that it will increase your horsepower, and your lights won't dim as much, stuff like that. Im thinking about doing it. I've heard it really does help. Im sure other people will comment so if im wrong you will find out.

Do it. It helps with the electrical system. Cuts down on 3k hesitation and will prevent that horrible bucking that happens to some of us. It definately can't hurt. Take a look at the stock grounds. Mine were all black tarnished and cruddy.

No draw back only positive, make your own cables for cheap , if you really need it the car will crank faster , lights will be brighter, the radio will be louder, the battery will live longer. If you do not need it, do it now and you will never need it. The job should only cost 5 or 10 dollars if you are smart.

Whats the cause of the bucking at low rpms?

i thought it was due to engine and tranny movement.... i could be wrong but i was under the impression that a engine torque brace minimizes that...

I made my own 6ga, ALL copper ground cable. Next time I'm under the UIM, I'm gonna attach to the engine, right under the coils. I have it on the belt tensioner right now.

You can get the ground cables for real cheap at parts stores as stated above.
There is nothing negative about it as long as you do ground to ground. If you hook up positive to ground, then you will have major problems :doh: I have 3 extra grounds on mine and it seemed to help. |

Where exactly do you ground it down? Is there a certain bolt that everyone uses, or just any metal part on the engine?

ground as much as you want from the engine to the body. im going all the way down to the tranny. even the exhaust ground will be redone. i found a mammoth amount of copper cable at work and its all mine. . . i work in conjunction with IBM and they use nothing but the best. i get a lot of their scrap aluminum. teehee.

i think it is aerospeed tha that makes the "ricey" ground cables.

About this grounding engine, Can I use 10 ga wire ? I have a lot of that wire haning around somewhere and i was thinking about using that. It's blue with a lot of small wires inside, you guys know what i mean? So can i use it?

id go with 8ga. . . no smaller in diameter. . . youd have to ground the hell out of it with 10ga IMO. someone may have used it though. anybody used 10ga cable for a grounding kit?

Actually there are couple grounding "systems" that are made in Japan.
HKS makes the Circle Earth aka the octopus. It basically is off the negative terminal of your batter and has like 9 wires that go to various grouding points in your engine bay. HyperGround is another one and the one that I use in my SR....it works. This one is better since it is a series of wires that link together through out your engine bay to the battery negative and the grounding points....it kinda plays connect the dots with the grounding points. As far as performance the HyperGround had a higher gain like 2-3 more than other systems in Japan...saw it in a option magazine. Overall they did see a gain in HP through the RPM band. One thing that it did for my SR is get rid of the lul in the engine when you come to a stop...didn't have that RPM dip. Chris |
