engine flooded - why and how to prevent?

I sorta searched but didn't find any useful info.

thanks,

Did you start it then turn it off right away after backing it up or something? I know that tends to flood the car.

When the engine is cold the ECU runs it open loop so it runs very rich.
That is why, as stated above, they flood when you run them for a really short period.
They way to prevent this is to let the engine run for at least a couple of minutes or press the throttle to get at 3000rpm, keep it there for a few seconds then turn off the ignition with the pedal still in the same position.
However, revving the engine when cold is not recommended since the oil is still thick.

how to prevent engine flooding

quick rev right before shutting off the car :icon_tup:

that actually serve this purpose for our car instead of looking cool like in movies

well, i haven't driven the car in 2 weeks, upon returning from vacation I sorely missed the FD but can't crank the engine over. It kept trying to start but just won't. I pulled the wires and there is spark so I am pretty sure the plugs are flooded. Never had this problem before though so hopefully it's nothing major...

A battery that was low on voltage could have contributed to it flooding.

I guess this could be the reason but I don't really understand the effect of low voltage = flooding plugs...care to explain?

If your battery is weak the car isn't going to crank fast enough to start, but you're still injecting fuel :)
