Engine Differences Between 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen

Hey Guys. I am a new forum member and I have to admnt that I have fallen hard for the FD - gorgeous car with plenty of muscle to take anything out there today. My plan is to buy a 3rd gen (preferably with engine troubles so I can save a little cash) and tear it apart and rebuild (or install a reman from atkins rotary or alike depending on condition etc) My question is this; I bought the "how to rebuild your 13B" video by Bruce Turrentine, which is very informative. However, in the video he is rebuilding a 2nd gen (87 I believe) NA. How different is the 3rd gen 13b from the 2nd gen 13b?

Thanks for responding to the newbie.

Long live the RX7

Let me say one more thing. I am sure there are plenty of differences between the two, I am looking to primarily find out from the 3rd Gen guys how hard it is to rebuild a 3rd gen (and, if the 30 some odd dollars I spend on the video was worth it!) I consider myself to be mechanically inclined and I can follow direction with out any problems....

Thanks again

not very. its still the same basic parts. if you wanna be sure about it then look in the manual. . . get a shop manual and take a look at. the only thing that i could see being different is the tolerances. have fun.

oh yeah, and dont mix and match the parts. you can use series 5 TII rotor housings on a series 6 motor though. everything else i would just use the series 6 stuff.

You might want to do a search on this concept. You may change your mind on the vendor.

Thanks for the info Guys - anyone else have anything to throw in?

Also - I will check out the dirt on Atkins, Thanks Grampa.

Differences in the motors are the FD motors have lighter rotors, the engine oil pressure is higher then the second gen turbo II motors. Lubrication and cooling ports were modified through out the motor. Thats all i can think of off the top of my head.

Thanks 2-Rotor - good info.
