Engine Dies When 1st Gear is Engaged

Hi everyone.
After a bit of reading here, I can't exactly piece this together.
My car exhibits a strange behaviour: although it runs fine, when I put the first gear in (or reverse) to move the car, if I leave it long enough (2/3 seconds) with the clutch depressed and the gear in, the engine reves slow down progressively and the car dies.

Forgive me, but I don't understand if this is a problem with the clutch switch or with something else. I remember reading something about the TPS maybe, that needs reset or the car won't run properly.

Any help/suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Interesting problem, because when i put in the 1st or reverse gear, my rpm went up and down. No one could tell me why.

How about checking these components to at least rule out they aren't the problem?

I am fine with doing that, my post was to ask if this opinion of mine has some ground to stand or if I am off my rocker and I'd be wasting my time if I do that.

I also am not sure how to check the clutch switch. I have the thread on how to calibrate the TPS, but I am not sure whether or not there is a procedure to check the clutch switch, or if it just needs to be taken out/apart.

Depress the pedal, and see if the white "button" pops out. If it doesn't, or only comes out part way, you need to replace the spring.
