Engine break-in Question
I just rebuilt my motor and was wondering about going up hills. Is it better to let the engine rev-up keeping the bost low or keep the revs low and let it boost. The housings and bearings are the originals, but Apex seals and all other seals are new. Plus the Engine has a street port. Thanks.

Rx7.com has a little section that talks about breaking in. It says not to go over 4k, and some other stuff.

You can call one of the tuners like KD Rotary, but I would say if no one's behind you, just let the car slow down.... ;) Actually, I think letting the car rev a little past 4k would be better than more than light boosting on the car.

Never lug the motor, especially while breaking it in. And according to Pettit, you are NOT rpm-limited when you break in a new motor. You should be using all of the rev range, just at limited (5psi) boost.

500 miles under 3k, oil change
1000 miles oil change, 100rpm increase every 100 miles 2000 miles oil change |
best thing to do is a lot of stop-and-go driving for the first 1000 miles, of course do like 7-sins stated, but try not to boost higher than 5psi, and try to use a lot of different rpms.

how can you not boost more than 5 psi?
|
Just be light on the throttle, when I cruise around town, I'll sometimes never boost at all, well maybe 1psi, but nothing major.
