engine break in. Not the normal question.
 

Ok guys i am having my engine rebuilt by Jason stage 3. I am wanting to break it in. i relly do not want to boost at all the first 500 miles. Is there any way i can keep the turbos from spooling up. I have searched didnt find anythang on the subject.

easy on the gas, shift before 3k on all gears.

^Yea just watch your boost gauge and shift just before 3k and youll be good. Good luck with your car, tell use how you like it after your done babying it! :)

It is highly recomended you wait a thousand miles before boosting. Don't push the loud pedal as hard, and as MakoRacing said watch the boost gauge.

I disagree. A little bit of boost can help the seals to break in. More important is varying rpms and load.

first 500 miles, shift at 4k and occasionally boost a bit, around 2-3 psi.

change oil

next 1000 miles, shift at 6k and occasionally boost to 5 psi.

change oil and go tune.

Point being, a little bit of boost once in a while during break in is nothing to get worried about......just don't go wide open throttle :).

the mad7tist suggested to me to throw a rock under the gas pedal

ive changed that to a block of wood its a great idea and on top of that run without one of your intercooler pipes if you cant control yourself

Its almost impossible to drive our cars without boosting. Any moderate hill taken at freeway speeds will cause the car to boost to keep its speed. Just be careful.

Ok Thanks For The Replies I Will More Than Likely Just Do The Rock Trick. It Is So Tempting To Give These Cars Hell. But After Spending The Money I Would Like It To At least Last 50,000 Miles.

I Have Read To Very The RPM But During A Search I Was Reading That Taking A Car On A Long Trip Was Not Bad. Now This Is Conflicting Information If You Are On A Highway Running 75 Mph The Hole Time You Would Not Be Varying The Rpm's. So What Is Better Not What Is Economical But Better For The Car.

I wouldnt do the rock trick. I mean come on, just be concious of how much gas your giving it, its not that difficult. The rock might slip under your brake pedal and thats sure as hell gonna be more then 3k to fix.

just take out the intercooler and put in a k&n filter there.... trust me, it works... and sounds louder with a port!

Rich's break-in steps above are still fairly conservative but are sensical. There is nothing wrong at all with boosting lightly during break-in. It's the high rpm, WOT crap you want to avoid. I would just drive normal around town with light highway use to break her in.

Ok So boost is fine just not to much. What is to much? I will not go wot and i was being sarcastic about the rock. IS 4-5lbs of boost fine? Thanks for all the info. I have also orderd a blitz smic, fuel pump, pfc+com, datalogit, aem wideband, 1300 secondaries, and a midpipe.

I already answered your questions up above, my man :).

I have probably broken in close to ten motors now, not all of them mine. Depending on how complete of a rebuild it is (rotor and stationary gear bearings new?) the break in steps I outlined above are quite conservative. Better safe than sorry though. I run 10w30 dyno oil for break in, then switch to 20w50 amsoil after break in.

You shouldn't boost even a broken-in motor until its up to temp, so you might as well aquire the skill w/ your right foot to keep the car in vaccuum until you want it otherwise.

My car never sees any boost until I see 80c on the PFC, and that can take some time when its cold out.

Why is every word capitalized? Someone else did this before, it's odd that you went through the trouble of capitalizing every first letter of every word....

Anyways, yea, as some said, to break in the motor, just leave a rock on the gas pedal and keep it WOT at all times...(*Disclaimer: I'm joking*)

my car boosts even at 1/3 throttle so, i cant help it but i heard as long as its not a reman then your alright just dont go WOT hard as hell and you should be alright .
