engine blown.....??

so heres what happened !!

i came out of a parking lot stepped on it till about 7,000 rpm and got her a bit sideways and let off and shifted into second , the car then backfired like usual and then the car just bogged right down to nearly walking speed , no power what so ever , and when at a stop struggled to even keep a consistant idle .

sounded almost like it was running on 2 cylinders / an old muscle car spitting and popping , the engine turns over but i have to nearly flood it with the gas for it to start up and i fear the worst.

everything is stock in the engine , no upgrades anywhere

thanks for all the help and advice

check the map sensor you may have just had the line blow off. with the map sensor unplugged it runs like you described. If not that check the compression on all the surfaces and see if it is blown.

sounds blown.

did you have stock boost control systems in place? boost gauge? what were you boosting?

close... but not quite, I just had mine do this to me, it started a little hard, but just cruising around and keeping it low in the rpms she was fine, I couldn't step on it at all tho.

from the sounds of it, he got on it while the motor was cold, and it went boom

Ratjar 11-02-09 02:59 AM

check the MAP, car runs drives like shit without it connected. altho in my experience it should idle fine.

start small and work your way big. how many miles are on your car, how long did you let it warm up for?

Do a compression check:

No one can tell you over the internet for sure your engine is blown. Get your hands dirty a little.

This takes all of ten minutes, yet so many people refuse to do it:scratch:

Same symptoms of my engine failure :)

scotty R 11-02-09 01:05 PM

im running the stock boost , 8.10.8 as well the car was completly warmed up , i had been driving it for nearly 30 min at that point , and ya im starting small , im checking the spark plugs today and ill check the map sensor as well to see if anythign was unhooked

potassemon 11-02-09 01:34 PM

uh, do you have a Check engine light on? how many miles are on the car? does it idle fine? check for noises, like rattles and knocks. and you really do have to do a compression check before you assume anything

What vacuum is the car pulling when you get it started and at what rpm is it at when you take the vac reading?

It's like deja vu.... all over again :)

Guy will likely spend countless hours diagnosing the car not wanting to drive to the store to pick up a $20.00 compression tester and find out if he is wasting time by performing a 10 min test. You can preach all you want, doesnt mean anyone will listen :)

Ratjar 11-02-09 09:55 PM

just going to tell you what everyone else said... do a compression check.

besides that check the map sensor

Or, if warmed up, the IAT may have been reading a high heat soaked temperature so, again, boom.

yeah, he did say it was warmed up, this sounds familiar to what happened to my buddies car in april, sad sad day, now he's got the new motor and we should be putting it in in the next month or two hopefully.

scotty R 11-03-09 03:14 PM

so im getting a compression test done next week , my check engine light does not work , when i first got the car i found oil was pretty much everywhere as well , intake , intake manifold etc.. so i new i didnt have long till this motor would soon be done as well i can still start it but its a struggle right now , it turns over but you have to practically flood it to get it to start and the idle is horrible sounding like it will die/cut out at any point in time

bryant 11-03-09 04:32 PM

oil in the intake is normal

KKMpunkrock2011 11-03-09 07:29 PM

oil in the intake is the turbos, not the motor.
