i was just wondering if u can take a fd engine which is a auto and put it in a car that is a 5 speed people say i can do it but i also heard u have to do alot of mods to get it to work i'm lookin at a jdm engine but it seems like most of them r autos thanks nick

An auto engine can be used in a manual, but a manual engine cannot be used in an auto. The Auto Starter cannot bolt up to a manual engine.

I got a five speed rear iron I want to trade for an auto rear iron.. Mine is in good shape..

i might have an auto rear iron laying around somewhere, but i can't remember if i used it yet. i'll hit you up if i find it.

sorry i have a 5speed tranny in my fd my engine blow it seems like all jdm engines r auto can i take that (engine which had a auto bolted to it ) and bolt it to my 5 speed tranny sorry for the mix up thanks nick

Yes, you can take the engine from an automatic car and bolt it up to a 5 speed car, provided you use the starter from an automatic car. Also....remember that the output shaft of the automatic car has no pilot bearing nor seal in it, so you'll have to do that also. And of course you'll have to remove the flex plate and counterweight assembly and replace it with a flywheel.

i've used auto rear plates in 5-speed applications with the starter in the stock location before without any trouble.

Yes, however, unless you are going to rebuild the engine; I wouldn't recommend changing the rear side housing as you'll increase the risk of a coolant seal leak by doing so. You'll have to pull the engine studs which will release tension on the other sections of the engine. You'll also need to replace the o-rings with the rear side housings.

You can use an Auto engine (rear plate) on a 5-speed (manual) tranny.

Just to clarify this once and for all: NO, you do not "have" to change the rear iron of a auto engine to bolt up to a 5 speed. It WILL work, with just a couple of minor changes such as using the automatic's starter, putting in a pilot bearing/seal, etc.

What you CANNOT do is use a 5 speed engine in an automatic car.

I don't think it's possible to use the automatic starter on an auto engine using a 5-speed transmission. When I did my 5-speed swap, I needed to use the 5-speed starter, as the auto starter actually bolts onto the side of the engine, with a section cut away in both the rear iron and auto tranny for it. Obviously the 5-speed does not accomodate this, as the starter is in the "traditional" location.
