Empty pipes in Rats' Nest
Just what the heck do those empty pipes - actually one pipe with two open ends - in the solenoid rack supposed to be for? Should they be capped or left open?

Not exactly sure what you are referring to... Got a pic?

Depending on what year your car is, whether the car is a California model or not, or whether your car is manual or auto or not, some of the hard pipes below the UIM will have nothing attached to them. This is normal.
Take a look at the vacuum line diagram to see about your situation. If you are still confused/concerned, post a pic and list your car details. |
Right behind the Vacuum chamber, infront of the solenoid rack there is a small bundle, about four of vacuum pipes. One of them, I believe its the maroon one in the colored vacuum hoses diagram, is open on both ends, and the manual even points out that they are empty, or not attached to a hose. But if not, what are they for? Mine are open, should they be capped?

Yes, the first pipe in the rats nest that doesn't connect to anything is for automatic transmission rx7's :)
