Emergency brake tightened all the way and still won't grab - what's up?

The e-brake on my FD is tightened all the way and still won't grab the rear wheels. I used the adjustment screw in the console under the e-brake handle as other posts have instructed and can't turn the adjustment screw any more, it looks like I am out of thread. Adjustment made it slightly better - it feels like if I could keep "shortening" the cable it would get there. I removed a rear wheel and checked movement of the cable and it does pull, just not enough to completely close the calipers and squeeze the rotor. I also checked the pads on both rear wheels - they have about 80% thickness left. I purchased a replacement set just to compare. So, could this be a stretched cable? Any way to take the slack out or do I need a new cable?

Braking is fine on this car - no problems stopping when driving. Just don't want the FD to roll down the street if my son forgets to leave it in gear when he parks it outside. :wallbash:

Help! Emergency brake tightened all the way and still won't grab

Maybe more desperation in the title would help. Anyone out there experienced this with their FD? Thanks!

Have you downloaded the FSM at the top of the page ?? Just so you don't get oo comfy with the car not rolling if left out of gear....these cars aren't like pistons motors, you can put it in first or reverse and push the car any where you want with little more resistance than in neutral. Download the manual and check the brake section it should be able to tell you if the e-brake is setup properly at the calipers (I can't believe the cable has stretched to the point of being unserviceable).

Cable is most likely streched or part of the assembly is broken. Replace it with a new one form Malloy Mazda.

Got the FSM at home and will check and get back with what I find. Thanks!
