Electronic / Start Problems
 

Hi, have an 93 mod FD, but have a problem, sometimes when I turn the ignition on, the lights in the dash just lights slightly lights up, just as if the battery is low on voltage.
The only problem is, it's not. It's the same in every "step" in the ignition. And If I try to start, it also acts like it's low on voltage. Sometimes it's like that, and sometimes it acts perfectly normal. If i turn the ignition on, and the problem is there, and I leave it, it might suddenly go back to normal. Anyone who can help?

The battery is fine, and no corrosion on the batteryconnections. Have'nt tried anything else yet.

Seemes like there's an bad connection, og maybe a bad main power realay or something like that. Any typical failures?
I'm greateful for any tips. Want my baby back in action!

There was a thread not too long ago that helped me with what seems to be your problem. Basically you jump the starter relay that is located in the drivers side kickpanel. I forget the colors of the wires but the relay is a blue one , just take it off the plug and jump the two thicker guage wires. Check out the FSM if in doubt. This worked for me although I still get a clicking starter solenoid every once in a while before it starts, however that is another issue.

check the ground wires, it could be simply because the wires are wearing out, or something isn't contacting well.

Def sounds like a bad relay or something. You'll need a multimeter to test anything electrical, so I suggest you either buy one or find a friend who's good with electrical stuff.

You can find the wiring diagram in the sticky thread. Download that and use it for a reference.

I know my way around a multimeter, just wanted to ask here if thisd is a typical problem, and what to fix, before I started testing using it.
However, I don't think it has anything to do with the starter relay, since the fault is there in any of the key position on the ignition. But it can be a main relay, main contact point, bad grounding or something like that.
I'm not sure when I get the oppourtunity to start checking, but I will for sure post what I find here. Aspecially since there's others with the same problem.
