electrical / wiring problem!

Hey guys,

I tried installing a TT, defi gauges, and a hks boost gauge today, used a TT harness, and followed these instructions: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/some-defi-standard-gauge-install-%2Afacts%2A-239260/.

I tested it out, reconnected the battery, turned the key all the way, the hks gauge lit up (only has a acc wire + ground wire), but the defi gauges didn't light up at all. The needles were moving around though, so it was getting power. Didn't really notice anything with the TT because i didn't turn on my car.

I don't remember if the gauge cluster is supposed to light up without the headlights, but it wasn't lighting up so i decided to try turning on the headlights. First click for parking lights, everythign was normal. Using the button on the left side of the gauge cluster to pop up the lights worked too. But when i turned the switch all the way, everything went dead.

I took out the key, put it back in, I hear the beeping noise when the key is in the ignition. I turn it to the first click, and the noise gets a lot quieter, and sounds like its dying out, the dash also isn't lighting up. The HKS gauge stopped lighting up too, and the defi gauges were completely dead.

I disconnected the battery, checked all the fuses near the dead pedal, all of them were ok, reconnected, still the same results. The car also won't start now.

help!! =(

What voltage are you seeing at the battery terminals? Where are you powering the Defi gauges from? Is this source ignition-switched?

i don't have a volt meter, i need to go get one or find somewhere that rents. I followed the first link i posted in wiring the defi gauges, I wired the illumination + ground to the cigarette lighter light, (not the actual cigarette lighter), acc. on to the top right spade port on the fuse box, and the 12v constant to the bottom left wire of the big blue connector right below / behind the steering wheel.

I looked through the service manual, found that when i turn the key from off to on position, i'm not hearing either the main relay or circuit opening relay click. I guess the next step is to test the relays and make sure they're still working.

You can buy a multimeter for $10 at Pep Boys. Without one, you are pissing into the wind.

After checking the battery, I would first verify that your illumination, constant on, and accessory sources behave as expected.
