electrical problems... help
 

Okay so I was trying to change out the cd-deck for a better one and decided
not to disconnect the battery. After connecting everything for the new deck i tested it out before sliding it in and low and behold just about nothing works.

So I have checked all of the fuses and the only one I found that was blown was the ROOM. Replaced it and some stuff came back, but the instrument cluster, and all ACC including ignition still don't work.

Could I have possibly blown either/or both of the CPU's?

Really need some help here, thanks.

By now I'm sure you realize this was a very bad idea. The battery is only one 10mm nut; you're lucky you didn't zap yourself or ruin your new stereo.



You probably blew more than just one fuse. The ECU doesn't control the instrument cluster lights. Be sure to check the fuses in the engine bay, as well as the ones inside the cabin (near the clutch pedal).

It's possible that you wired up the new harness wrong- it's weird for your ROOM fuse to have blown. Have you tried disconnecting the stereo and starting the car?

Or, if you'll post what works and what doesn't work, we can trace it through the wiring diagram down to where the problem is.

Either way, silly thing to do, guess we all learn our lesson somehow. Last choice is to get a multimeter and start going through your fuse and relay blocks.

I have checked every fuse.

I called a guy whose suggested checking the circuit within the instrument panel (he's seen similar happenstances) so i'm going to look there first

As for what works, things hardwired to the battery work: headlights, brakelights, and hazards
After fixing the ROOM fuse, domelight, and security system works

What doesn't work is: instruments when key is turned to ACC, ignition, or any accessories.

I have tried disconnecting the radio, but no luck, i'm going to see if i can find an open circuit

Lastly, yes i know it was a stupid error...I hate learning lessons

Looking at my trusty wiring diagram, on page C-1a, I see that it could be a number of fuses:
40A B2
120A Main
60A BTN
40A B1
10A ROOM

but if your ROOM is working now, that leaves:
40A B2
40A B1

I believe those two are under the hood, should be easy to find. If not, let me know. Anyways, that should get your cluster working; if not, you likely fried a wire, which would be a real pain.
