Electrical problems
 

Hey guys...i just started getting electrical problems. :mad:

My symptoms are:

-When i turn on the headlights, the light sometimes comes on very dim on the passenger side, and i have the 99 spec turn signals and it switches from the bright white one over to the orange blinker. And then the right blinker in the front doesnt work. But then the driver side stays perfectly okay.

-My fans dont stay on when i turn off the car now. Before they would stay on for like 9 minutes? after the car shuts off to make sure it fully cools so it doesnt heat soak.

-One time i was driving and the yellow ABS warning light was on (this was when the headlight was f'ed up)

-sometimes the headlights will come on and they are pefectly fine. the headlights are bright and the turn signal lights are on perfectly okay.

Do you guys think this could have anything to do with my stereo system installed? These problems started happening after. Like...my battery is relocated to behind my driver side bin and i only installed 1 ground strap to it to the back of the seat. Should i install a second ground to another location for the battery?


How do you guys think i should go about locating this problem...It seems like it may be wires that run on the passenger side of the car, cause all i can think of is the ABS system is over there. The passenger side headlight, and turn signal. and also the relay for the fan switches. Is there a main main harness where all these wires may run through that i cud check if they are maybe shorting to ground. or something.

GND to the back of the seat?? one of the bolts that hold the seat to the floor? make sure it is solid. Ohms meter and check for O.OX ohms between that location and the B-

Ive read that, that is one of the places people ground the wires when relocating the battery...is there any other good location when it is in the rear bin?

u think this cud be a problem? I really do think it might have to do with some wiring on the passenger side...

How much do you think it would cost to take it somewhere to have them diagnose it?

I had the same issue with the headlight being dim, check the connector to the lights, in my case there was oxidation in them.
Allthough with your other electrical problems I doubt that will be your problem...

Yes, clean and double check all grounds, even in the engine bay.

Sounds like a ground issue since some of those items are seperate circuits from each other.

Does that bolt you used go through the floor pan? If you can get to it on the bottom of the car, I'd run another ground from it to (at least) the block to make sure you don't have excessive ground-path resistance.

what do you mean by ground path resistance?

would any of these problems have anything to do with my alarm?

1. Too much resistance (poor connection) between battery and engine, etc.

2. I don't have a clue.

So over the previous weekend i was driving and my car just shut off...lights engine, everything, turns out my negative came apart and it was not grounded at all.

I was thinking to myself maybe this is why im having all those electrical probs, maybe the thing was loose!

So i ended up remaking the negative cable, only this time wrapping about hallf a roll of electrical and duct tape around the wire and the connector. Not only that i made a 2nd negative cable and so now i have 2 big fat negatives grounding the battery.

I thot everything was all gravy, i turned on the headlights and they turned on normal how they should and i was very pleased. So yesterday i drove my car at night...and it did the same thing...i turned on the headlights and only the driver side one went on. and the passenger side is very dim, and it switched from the white turn signal light over to the orange one. and my right blinker blinks fast as tho i dont have a bulb connected. RAWR!! and my fans dont stay on after the car is shut off either.

So i think this weekend, I am going to take off the passenger side fender... and check the whole wiring harness on the passenger side of the car. I can see from under the wheel well theres a little sign of rubbing from the tire onto that big wiring harness. Hopefully no wires are spliced up. But i figure that maybe the problem. Any thoughts?
