Electrical problem? Water temp gauge bouncing
 

Hey all,

I've got a '94 Touring and just recently ran into what I imagine is an electrical problem. What happens is when I apply a decent amount of throttle (close to flooring it) in any gear, my Defi water temp gauge starts bouncing all over the place, sometimes sweeping the full range and sometimes just bouncing 40 or so degrees in either direction.

It seems like this might be indicitive of a problem not w/ the gauge (it works perfectly every other time other than under acceleration), but with the electrical system not working under heavy throttle. The battery is only about 6 months old, and alertnator was replaced a couple years ago. Car is running great, but the gauge bouncing all over the place when I accelerate has me concerned.

Ideas?

Check your temperature sensor sending unit on the engine side if its a loose connection, better to solder it. The wire tends to work itself loose. I would check all connections on the gauge itself too.

My gauge used to jump all over the place until I soldered the terminal wire on the temp sending unit. If that does not work, maybe you got a shorted circuit any time you're boosting?

Negative Mako...he has an aftermarket gauge, not stocker. You have a short or loose connection somewhere on your sending unit wiring, check the complete route out and report back !

as above,my negative was loose on my egt and it jumped all over the place

Sorry for be late (lazy).

After close inspection, it turned out that my aftermarket temp gauge wire had been smashed and was exposed in one little section. I did a little repair job with some electrical tape and it seems to have fixed the problem (only been driving on it a day since I made the fix).
