electrical issue #4,080 headlight related
 

tell me if i am on the right track, and have any of you experienced this at all?

[keep in mind that i have a c-west light kit please]
while installing my new greddy fmic last week, i had a host of issues to overcome. one of tehm was the battery. i bought a smaller one to replace the larger optima, and have it turned 90 degrees sideways on the reinforcement bar. whilest i was connecting the + post, i noticed a spark originating from the cluster of wires bunched together by cable ties....all + related. that evening, i noticed my interior right hand turn signal was HALF way lit up while the lights were in the ON position. the exterior turn lamps were also half lit fron and rear.

looking at the lights from the outside, ALL 4 of the lights were lit, however, there is a catch. only the DRIVER HIGH BEAm was on with the proper brightness. all of the other 3 lights were very dim.

that is the scenario. I, and i repeat, I THINK that this is a GROUND related issue, not fuse or bulb related. could anyone else please elaborate? i do know that i cut out some "extra" wires that were laying around from my old fog light kit, and was thinking that maybe i used a ground on the old fogs and did not remember, however, i am pretty sure that i used all of the factory headlight wires and tapped into them directly....

That's a new one. Have you went through the harnesses looking for exposed wired? That would be a start. Other than that, I wouldn't know where to start, just eliminate every component possible.

i am doing this on tuesday afternoon. i realy do think that it is a ground issue, but i wanted a second opinion.

12volts in and the ground should read 0, right. if the ground reads anything above 0, then there is a fault in the grounding system. please someone, let me know if i am wrong...

I had the exact same problem!!! Dude this was so annoying, such that only the drivers light was the correct beam strength and the others were dim...
also included in my problem that the 'lighting problem' was also draining a lot of juice, so that if i turned on the lights only the drivers would pop up and the passengers would stay down, but lit dimly.(so i had to use the manual switch 1st.)
and once, my drivers side headlight would start opening and closing crazily when it was dark--that was weird.

Well those electrical FD problems are gone now thankfully! After looking for a bad ground--that i couldn't find, but i think its something about the fog light wires, the problem just went away on its own :). Oh and I later took it to Mazda and they confirmed a ground problem.

the ground is what i suspect, and my electrical knowledge will most definately grow from this as well. or, at least my ability to troubleshoot and debug will get better...

any update on this i have having the same issue.

could i just run a big wire to the chassi for a ground.
