Electric Vs Mechanical Gauges
 

Hi all, I am the new owner of a Red 95 R2, and a Boost Gauge is going to be one of my first installs. I would like to know everyones opinion on Electrical vs. Mechanical gauges. I know what's physically involved with the installation of each, but Im curious to know if one is more accurate than the other? Also, is there a particular manufacturer that is better than another? Or is the only difference looks and $? Thanks for you help guys!

I didn't know there was such a thing as an electrical boost gauge.

Personally, I have Autometer gauges. They are cheap (~$45 to $50 each), they are reasonable quality, and Autometer has a line of gauges that look very close to the stock gauges. The more expensive gauges are higher quality and more accurate, but you're really paying a lot for that.

A mechanical boost gauge is better. Find one from a well known manufacturer that looks nice. I bought a VDO boost gauge from www.egauges.com

Can you provide any evidence or an explanation as to why a mechanical boost gauge is "better"? The only thing you told me, was that it was "better" w/ no evidence to back your opinions/claims.

My OPINION is that a mechanical boost gauge works better. It is easier to hook up because it requires no sending unit or sensor. Just run a hose, and its done. I would not use a mechanical oil pressure gauge because of the possibility of leaks.

I don't think ALL mechanical gauges are better.
