EGT Gauge Installation

For those of you who have installed one. Where is the hole drilled for the sensor. Would it require drilling though the downpipe for correct sensor placement?

Thanks

Actuly the DP is not were you want to install an EGT sensor.

You need to put it on the Header rightbefore turbo where all of the exhause headerlines meet.

Huh? FD's don't have headers, we have an exhaust manifold that is basically integrated into the twin turbo unit and then the DP bolts to that. All the FD's that I've seen with EGT's have the probe tapped into the DP just down a bit from the O2 sensor.

I think you might be thinking of the setup on a boinger where the headers collect from the manifold and then feed a downpipe.

mine is in the downpipe near where the o2 sensor is. put it closer to the turbo though.

Really do not what to drill through my SS downpipe for the gauge.

How big of a hole is need?

FYI, your readings will be off by a certain amount (depending on load) if you mount your sensor post turbo. The perfect situation is pre turbo in the manifold; which is what that guy was trying to say. It is difficult, and you run the risk of a broken probe eating your turbos. You wiegh the costs...
Don.

I hear ya, but I don't think it's feasible with these cars. I've never seen it done in an FD.

I wasn't thinking when i posted that and was rembering when I installed an EGT on my friends MKIII supra. No hes right you should install the gage on the downpipe but as close to the turbo as possible as exhause travles it looses temprature. Good luck as I don't want an EGT cause I don't have access to a dyno to make a 300 dollar gage worth it.

egt sensor

i ordered my m2 downpipe with a fitting already welded on, it is about 2-3" from the top flange. it also has the o2 sensor fitting moved several inches further down towards the main cat.you want to try to get the sensor as close to the manifold as possible, but check for clearance before you drill a hole.just my .02.;)

Smilez 03-27-02 09:32 AM

Rexman, what kind of temps do you see being 2-3" away?

rxrotary2_7 03-27-02 10:40 AM

what egt are you all using? where did you find it for the best price? and where did you get the probe or does the one you have come with it?
rotorrocket...is jim going to do the instal or you are doing it yourself?

Smilez 03-27-02 10:43 AM

I have a greddy one I paid around $150 for a year ago I'm going to use. It came with the probe and mount.

the_glass_man 03-27-02 06:43 PM

Autometer for me.

I have the Defi 52mm EGT gauge, and it came with the probe. I got it at the RX7Store.

suganuma-at home 03-29-02 10:09 PM

what EGT temps do y'all see?

rxrotary2_7 03-30-02 05:45 AM

do any of you log O2 volts? there is a place that sells a very nice O2 volt meter for a reasonalble price.

f2racer 08-06-04 12:18 PM

When drilling into the downpipe, did anybody do this with the DP still on the car? Were you running the car while drilling? Did you disconnect the cat?

Thanks!
