ecu automatic ques
my 93 auto, needs a new ecu (the computer) due to the transmission not shifting right, so does the main ecu operate the transmission? is that what i need? i have heard that some cars have seperate computers to operate the tranny, thanks, this website is a lifesaver!

no, the auto tranny has a diff ECU than the 5spd cars
so you just need an ECU from a non-cali auto car i have a 5spd non-cali ECU, doesn't help you much though |
I think there is some confusion here. The automatics are controlled with a secondary computer located in the driver's footwell (I believe, I have a 5-speed myself). The engine control computer (commonly referred to as "ecu") is different than the 5-speed computer and is located in the passenger footwell.
Why do you think you need a new automatic tranny control computer? Have you troubleshooted the tranny using Section K of the factory service manual? |
rynberg, i have no factory manual, my problem is, that it shifts fine, until it gets in third, and than, if i keep it floored, it will not shift out, but when i let off the gas, it will then shift, my fluid was high, i drained it, and put the correct amount in, the tranny only has about 10000 miles on it, i dont know what else to do, so any info would be great, about this secondary computer, and any other ideas u might have, u seem like u know what is going on, thanks,

Actually I don't know jack about auto trannies, as I've never owned a car that had one. You can download the service manual for free from www.iluvmyrx7.com
The automatic section is Section K. It is 250 pages long.... (even longer than the dreaded F section...) |
The tranny computer is right under the ECU on the passenger side. That might be your problem if not try swapping the plug to the other harness in that computer. thats what happend to me when the tranny wouldn't shift right.
