economic oil change

I save a couple bucks when i buy my mobil 1 and filter at wal mart and take it to my mechanic to change for 10.00. Yes, i prefer it to reg dino oil.going on 11 months and 10,400 miles and ZERO problems with my car, other than me braking the abs sensor wire while installing my rb springs. Its been the most realible dd that i have ever owned.

Uh...okay....thanks for that info. What's your point?
If you are buying your filters at Wally World then your choice is FRAM, and they aren't really a very good filter, you know. Don't get me wrong, for my 4 other vehicles other than my FD as well as for my boat, I use either synthetic or semi-synthetic VALVOLINE or MOBIL 1 and FRAM filters myself, though I still change the oil every 3K miles. The FD gets factory filters and dino oil though.
And I am not about to be the one that opens the dino-vs-synthetic can of worms again..... :rlaugh:

Baja - add Bosch filters to your list. So far as I can tell, they are identical to the Mobil1 filtes in every way, but $5 less. For a time, they were absolutely identical to the Mobil1, but about last year Mobil1 changed them to look different. But the performance specs are the same.

^ Thanks, Dave. Is there a 'chain' store that sells BOSCH filters?
PEPBOYS has some filters that I simply can't remember the name of...seemed German....and they had a display that showed a FRAM vs this filter and the difference in filter media was astonishing!

Autozone has them. They come in black boxes and are $6.

The has managed to save, say, $10 per year off the maintenance of his FD by using a crappy filter.

Of course, that saving is offset by the fact that he uses synthetic oil, which is totally pointless with 2-3k oil change intervals.
