Ebrake handle

Trying to remove the ebrake handle sucks a$$!!! Anyone got any tips or ideas? Or even anything that will replace it if i have to cut it off?

Mahjik 01-25-07 04:32 PM

Most people just cut it off. IIRC, it's on there with some adhesive. You could try heating it up to see if that would loosen it. However, if you aren't going to ever use it again, just cut it off. ;)

Ya....i heated it up. I pulled the damn leather wrap off! :wallbash: So....now its just a rubber handle. I was wanting to use it again...try and have it wrapped in new leather with red stiching. Sorta like this miata has on it.

Authentikdit 01-25-07 10:57 PM

Just out of curiousity, why would one want to remove the E-brake handle?

XxMerlinxX 01-25-07 10:58 PM

To replace it. Mine's pretty worn out too.

Im gonna be sending mine over to redlinegoods.com hopefully....and have them put some new leather on it. But the damn thing doesnt come off unless you cut it off. Im still searchinh for some new ideas though. This is turning out to be a hell of alot harder than it should be!

Did they give you a good deal on new leather? I'd love to get mine recovered.

I don't think there is any way you can take the rubber off without cutting it. It is held on by a very stong rubber-like adhesive along a line on the top portion of the handle, that will not loosen with heat. When I installed the Mazda OEM titanium handle, I had to slice it down the middle, peel it apart and tug the hell out of it, then use a razor blade to slowly remove the remaining adhesive/rubber from the metal underneath over the course of about an hour, paying attention not to scratch the metal.
