Ebay crystal clear headlights
 

I thought I saw a thread about experiences with them, cant find it now. Anyone use these? They are glass lenses but I doubt DOT approved. Would any well-known aftermarket RX-7 company have a different option to go with?

IIRC, the people who bought those reported that they were PLASTIC, not glass.

^ That and also they didn't fit properly...

It seems like there are a few different vendors on ebay, some dont say DOT approved, and some dont say anything about glass housings but state HID builbs will damage lights. Maybe they got one that wasn't advertised as glass? I know these products on ebay arn't usually the best quality, but no one else sells clear headlight housings for our cars.

I bought some and though they were plastic, they fit properly and were a vast improvement over faded stockers both cosmetically and functionally. I used silverstar bulbs in mine.

Don't know where you heard that but I have a set I bought off ebay and mine fit exactly like my stock ones. They look great. I have had them since March and I also have an HID conversion in mine. They are RHD and plastic, but with my conversion it doesn't matter cause my cut-off is built-in to the bulb unit.

I was hoping you could give me more information on your setup especially on the HIDS you used to bypass the housing's RHD cutoff pattern.

This is the housing Sakebomb use in their $1000 retrofits i think.

I use them for my retrofit as well, Lexus RX350 Bi-Xenon projector with lens mod :)

I just switched back to flip ups and need something like that!

They are easy to make, ~2hrs per light, feel free to PM me.

You should write it down in this thread so you don't have to do it in multiple pms like to me :)

I don't have a clean step by step how-to right now, and I didn't take a lot of picture along the way as I was rushing to get them done in a few hours.

I might make a few more of sets so I can take some pictures, maybe try different projector just for comparsion sake, plus I enjoy making them :)

The Sonax lenses are decent quality and idealy suited for a conversion.

I think with any research people can find the parts required for the job. Of note because the Sonax lenses are plastic any solvents will destroy them, ask me how I know....

The job basically involves

-Sonax lights
-Oven bake at lowest setting for 15-20 minutes.
-Pry appart lense from housing
-Cut off plastic sticking out which houses the normal bulb.
-Approximate cut with Dremel diamond tool (stick shape/cylinder)
-Fitting of projector with Dremel with sanding wheel.
-Keep in place with various epoxy / I used the SIMA Anchoring Cement twice with good results as recommended by TRS
-Use Butyl or reuse leftover glue heated to restick lense and you are done.

-After for installation you need to trim the headlight housing to fit the backside of the projector.

The parts I used were.
-TL Projectors
-E55 Shrouds
-Morimoto long harness 35w Ballasts and OEM Infinity Ballasts (Morimoto's are easier to fit)
-Normal TRS harness for Hi/Low Beam.
-OEM Bulbs

This is from memory as I did this a few years ago.

Once you price everything out it is approx 3-500$ in parts and if you messup the housings in the process another 100$ or more you get the point.

To do the job is I would say at least 4-6 hours depending on skill level so I would say if your time is valuable it might be spent on better things more profitable to you and just buy the Sakebomb kit. If your time is less valuable then you can attempt the conversion it is maybe a 2/10 in terms of difficulty.

Didn't think you can fit a TL in there, should've kept my TL/ZKW combo to try it.

I've got a set of these housings I maybe wouldn't mind you messing with if you wanted. Next time I see your car I want to check these out.

I'll be at the tuning session next week, you are welcome to check out the lights then, and we can talk about retrofitting yours.

That guide is good for running the Mini kit, not quite the same when you have to cut the housing, proper aiming is very important when you actually cut the bulb base and glue a projector in its place.

Dang, I thought I was the only one with the best headlights in the world.

Unfortunately those projectors have been discontinued. You may be able to get them but I'm not sure, you can pick them up from eBay but I'm not too sure on the quality of those.

The new mini d2s 3.0 is a lot larger which means cutting a hole in the back to mount them. I think I have seen the mini h1 being a direct fit but have not tried those myself.

So far I know these projectors fit. Rx350, fx-r, mini d2s 3.0, mini h1, mini d2s 2.0 ordered from best to worst but even the worst is worlds better than the stock setup.

Aside from the TL, I think the RX350BX is the best Bi-Xenon projector that fits our little housing.

So true about the stocker lol, btw did you do any color mod to yours?
