Ease My Fears

Im an ex honda driver. I think the Rx7 is the most beautiful car on the road, and I realize its potential. They are not that expensive to buy either.

But...im 18, and Im enlisted in the AF so Im not exactly rich. Im very very worried about realiability. I've heard so many stories about them not being reliable, and constant money pits. Guys telling me they pray to god everytime they race someone that they dont blow their seals or pop a hose.

What can I do to make a Rx7 Reliable...what about the hoses and the seals...when I first get my Rx what steps should I take to make it reliable to get to ..... please everyone respond with all the feedback you can...as quickly as you can, along with pictures and links and everything a new or potential FD owner should see/read/ etc etc...I need allll the help I can get, for the past 2-3 years I've obsessed over lil weak 1.6 and 1.8 liters and aftermarket low boost turbos.....Im in need of your help

THanx :(

first thing to do before you buy one is have it checked for problems by a reputable ROTARY shop. after that reliability mods are ecu to prevent from running lean with mods and removes fuel cut, pettit AST the stock one is plastic and cracks alot, downpipe removes precat that gets clogged often, fluidyne radiator because the stock has plastic end caps and can fail easily, boost gauge and temp gauges for info on how the car is running too hot no boost etc, silicone vacuum hoses to replace the old rotted ones and prevent boost problems, if you find a well maintained car or one with a new engine already you shouldn't have too many problems. stuff will always break no matter what car. with all that stuff your car will be faster and more reliable :)

Im not tryin to be mean but do a search, there is a lot of information posted here and a lot of links, first mods should be a boost gauge and downpipe, and then move on from there once you know everything is wroking fine, if yo are going to worry about the reliability dont get it, i am 19, and have money saved in case somethin does happen, be smart about it and once again dont get the car if it unreliablity is going to be a problem, all youll ever do is worry about it.......

Well everyone will have a different opinion about what to do to your car except that you need a boost gauge. I recommend doing lots and lots of reading. Look through the old posts here and cruse through the rotary web ring. It has many Rx-7 web sites with info. To be blunt you won't get much of a response with your question because it is too big. It would take each one of us like an hour to provide you with our thoughts on what you just asked. So start by doing your own research and then try asking specific questions like "is getting an metal AST better than the elimination kit?" (BTW this is also covered several times over on this forum.) Anyway try visiting my site to get started. It has links to several other good rx-7 sites along with the webring and my own attempt on providing info:)
