dual oilcooler ?'s
 

hey if you FD has a single oil cooler(base and touring) is there a kit to get the dual oilcooler like the R1 ans 2's? can you buy it from mazda or is it just better to make you own dual oilcooler system? thanks

You can add the passenger side OEM cooler and lines -- they are for sale from time-to-time in the classifieds.

Other than that, the best way is to just install an entirely new aftermarket oil cooler system. You can run a search using my username and "oil cooler", you will get several threads which explain your options and what you need.

That's on my list for next year :D

Haven't I seen you advocate that going that route is a waste unless necessary and only needed if the stock coolers can't effectively do the job?

I have stock coolers but for the last week have been running on one while it gets different fittings on. I have noticed a 15-20 degree hike in temps on the street while getting on it, and thats with relatively cool weather. With the stock duals, they seem to be great in keeping the temps in check. I'll have to look at logs but seemed to do well on the track too meaning I wasn't concerned about cooking anything.

The stock single oil cooler is perfectly adequate for anything you want to do with this car except road racing. If you are not road racing, don't waste your time or money.

Both of you are right. For street use, the stock single cooler is ADEQUATE. I personally thought my oil temps were a bit high during summer driving with the stock single cooler. Given that, I think ALL FDs should have came with the dual stock setup.

I DO think that if you have the time and can find a good used set, that adding a second stock cooler is a good use of money. Any of the aftermarket oil cooler kits are a waste of money if you are not tracking the car.

I think autocrossing in hot areas could merit the use of aftermarket setups... i know the surface track temps at our local club reach well over 115F during the 3 summer months. heck, the weather gets to 110 sometimes out here. Hot weather means I am going to be overly paranoid.

Do you have an oil temp gauge? I do...and with the stock cooler around town I used to see 240F at the cooler outlet when it was over 100F ambient.

Perfectly adequate? Upgraded coolers a waste of time and money? I've gotta disagree. A single stock cooler can't keep up when it's really hot outside.

wow, i was planning on doing the upgrade for the track, but now i'm thinking of doing it much sooner. I don't have an oil temp gauge yet so I haven't been able to monitor temps.
