drying hks filters

I cleaned the filters around 3 and a half hours ago, got as much water out of it as i can, and have gone back out periodically to fling more out, but they're still wet on the inside, the apex filter on my t2 didn't take nearly this long, does anyone know any good way to get these things to dry out faster, i was hoping to still wash the car today. Thanks

Just put it on your car, it's ok, few drops of water will not do anything, you won't even notice it at all.

I spray water on my motor all the time, lotsa water.... :) h20/alc. inj.

Yes. However, if they are the foam based filters, oil them before you reinstall them.

If you can take the foam out of the filter housings, you can roll it up inside of a dry towel. The idea is to make a roll with layers of towel and foam. If you roll it tight a couple of times, the towel will absorb most of the water.

wait, what's this oiling thing, it finally dried and i just put them in, it's the regular hks honeycomb type filters, it does have an inner foam layer, and i didn't oil them, so what's this going to do, what type of oil do i have to use etc, thanks guys

Foam doesn't filter anything but large debris. To get the smaller particles, you need oil on the filters. Foam filters aren't too effective if they aren't oiled and they dry out and fall apart which is where they get their bad name from: improper use.

You can get the oil from just about any motorcycle shop (since a lot of motorcycles use foam filters). Here's what I used:

It's damn sticky stuff so use some latex gloves to work it into your filters, then reinstall them.

thanks mahjik, do i spray that on the inside where the foam is or the outside, which isn't foam?

I work it through the entire filter element.
