Dropping the subframe without re-aligning the car?
 

Hi guys,

Like most of you I have to re-seal my oil pan. I already lifted the engine the higher I can, but I have not enough room to insert the torque wrench to torque the mount bolts. So I'm looking to drop the subframe.

I read a lots of threads about doing this but I'm not sure if I can drop the subframe without having to re-align the car? Can I let the subframe hangs with the lower A arms retaining it? I know some of you have been able to just remove the two rear bolts to make extra-clearance but I don't think it's going to be enough to insert the torque wrench.

I'd personally "mark" where the subframe sits to be sure. Then instead of "dropping" the complete subframe, I would loosen all bolts to a certain extend to see if you can actually get enough clearance that way.

However If you DO remove the subframe completely, I'd recommend an alignment.

BTW, can you use a U-joint with an extension to the torque wrench? Maybe you should have enough room that way.

The last time i do it i remove the subframe. Mark where the subframe meet the body and remove the lower balljoint so the lower arm stay on the subframe so you dont touch the ajustement of the lower arm.

From my experience you will not regret to remove it completely instead of just lower it!
