Dropping the car but no rubbing
 
I want to go ahead and lower the FD to give it a little more aggressive look. I'm not going to go coil overs right now so I am looking at springs. My car is on stock springs, and on Tokico Adj. Shocks and I'm looking for a set of springs that'll lower the car yet when I do go to add wheels/tires later on, that they won't rub.

Let me know which springs and if you have them on your car and have pictures, go ahead and post them, thanks.

I just bought some eibachs (1" drop) from Jason at the rx-7 store.

Originally I was gonna go with H&R's (1.25" drop) but Jason asked what kind of wheel and shocks I was running. Told him 18's and he said I would most likely rub since I'm on stock shocks.

Since you have adjustable shocks I don't think that you have anything to worry about. Wort case scenario is that your ride would be stiff as Fawk (because you adjusted them that way) but not rub.

I was maybe leaning towards the teins.

Right now, I have adjusted the shocks to be soft, it's set at I think either 1 or 2 right now all around.

Front: 18x8.5 44 offset 245/35 18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
Rear: 18x9.5 45 offset 275/35 18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

Suspension:
H&R Springs (1.25" drop on all corners)
Koni Yellow Shocks (Set 75% firm front, 50% firm rear)

The car was sanded, any imperfections were fixed, and the car was completely repainted.

FMIC is a custom Hybrid. The endtanks and elbows are powdercoated Satin black.

Is H&R going to be lower than the Teins? Tein's are saying 1.4 drop in front and 1.3 drop in rear.

...you've seen pictures of my car with the Teins S springs.

I use a set of 17 lbs, Forgeline racing wheels that are 9.5x17 each corner. The rears has an additional 6mm offset for an even more agressive stance. The only time my wheels rub (on the front plastic wheel well cover) is when I am on full lock with the steering wheel, trying to make a very tight turn. That with 255X40X17 tires all around.

I ask because the H&R seems lower than the Teins. Just because a company states something, it doesn't mean that it drops that much cause my Teins on my 8 didn't drop as much as they stated

I understand. All I can tell you is that I would not really want to lower the car any more than where it is with the Teins. I had driven lower 7s but, the ride and bottoming was unacceptable. This setup is a good compromise for agressive look and function.

If I was back to racing I'd probably get the RB springs. They sit higher in the front but have guite a bit softer rates and are more compliant for racing. Couple that with stiff sway bars and you have a more sure-footed feel than with stiffer springs. With the Teins you will feel when you go over an ant...

Don't forget that going to a lower aspect tire, larger wheels will also effect compliance. In general the lower the sidewall the stiffer it is and so is your ride. So, if you change to stiffer springs and bigger wheels/shorter sidewalls, you'll get a double dose of stiffer ride.

The stock tires are pretty compliant over rough roads. I have tried 18" wheels/tires and they were too stiff for my taste (for street). 17 is plenty stiff for the horrible roads in California.

Alright, thanks, I think I'm going to go with the Teins. I had them on my 8 and loved them and I'm sure that they'll give me the kind of ride I want for my FD. I also have adjustable shocks, so I'll be able to adjust the ride once they springs get on.
