Driver side window (switch?) problem

Hi guys just bought a 93 r1 fd from a great friend yesterday! Can’t begin to express how amazing appreciative and excited I am of this....
anyway enough of the introduction rant! Lol

but ironically the driver side window was rolled down (and for the first time ever according to the previous owner-had it for 20 years!) it never stopped working before! It actually does feel like the switch came loose. It’s only the driver side and compared to the passenger side switch it feels “loose” like it’s actually not triggering and activating it to roll up or down.

any help would be greatly appreciated! And sorry for advance if this is a common problem o lr a dumb question!

Bad driver's side window switches are a common problem. Get a new '94 switch, they cost less and have the one-touch down for the driver's side. It's an easy swap out.

thanks dale! So I’m looking on eBay and they have ranges from a bunch around $35, $100-140 to $200
what are the differences and which one would you recommend??

For new Mazda parts ALWAYS go to Ray Crowe

There are some Chinese-made non-OEM switches out there. The quality of them isn't really known long-term, but I would guess they aren't great.

As Tom stated, get up with Ray Crowe. He can get you the best price on any OEM part. He has a 3-rotor FD and knows these cars front to back.

Hi arin thank you!

will check it out! I was guessing we could take off the actual buttons and see if it came loose or unhooked.. that was my guess vs buying a whole new unit?? Thank you hope that is the case..

You can sometimes fix or patch up a window switch but nothing beats a new one. A fixed switch will keep giving you problems. It can get you going but you'll be fighting it 6 months later. Fix it once and do it right.

Dale,

What's the part number for the correct switch to get?

DaleClark 07-23-20 08:16 AM

The 94 switch is

FD14-66-350C

So I took the switch out, disassembled the cover exposing the small spring loaded trigger to roll the windows up and down. I manually pushed both driver and passenger side up and down and they both work!
that means the plastic buttons Are not pushing the spring loaded trigger switch on the up. But none of the pieces are broken or cracked? And passenger and driver side feels the same. It was only loose rolling up (before I took it apart).
maybe I can somehow put it back all together and no need to buy a new switch..? I took. A short video clip of it. Do you guys know how to upload videos on here?

I had the same issue with the switch/window. ended up getting a cheap $30 ebay switch to test and make sure it wasnt the window motor etc. $30 ebay one worked great, was just the oem switch. I suggest trying the cheap ebay switch first to make sure there aren't any other electrical issues.
