Driveability Problems with my FD.

Hello,

I am having a problem with my FD which I think I may know the cure but would like to run it by this forum as well.

On acceleration/deceleration below 2,000 rpm the car is shuddering/jerking it is only slight but noticable, and very annoying in traffic (when it seems more pronounced).

I have read of this problem on a number of forums (there is a huge post on the RX7 Club Forum), and it seems that it could be the Throttle Position Sensor on the back of the throttle body.

As I have recently removed the throttle and inlet to polish them, could this be the problem? Could I have altered the sensor by accident?

Thanks,

Andrew.

Yes you could have. I have the same problem at around 1500-2000 rpms. I think this problem might not only be limited to the TPS though. I replaced the IAT and the thermoswitch in addition to adjusting my tps. I still have the problem.

Maybe i'll try adjusting the TPS and the idle again and see if that works. something seems to cause the car to cut fuel at these rpms. I'm wondering if it could be wiring, ecu, or solenoid related (probably not).

Let us know if you solve it.

In general, the car won't run *that* well below 2000 RPM - that's really lugging a rotary. You typically want to keep RPM's above 2000.

I did wonder if my car is not too keen on the intake kit, but I've not noticed this problem before. Might try putting the original airbox back in to see if there is any improvement.

also check plugs and wires. the TPS is relatively easy to adjust.

mileage mods?

car is a UK Spec 1996, Greddy ram intake and HKS SSQV dump valve. No exhaust mods as yet.

car has done 29,000 miles.

definitely try the plugs. use the stock NGKs. rotaries love new spark plugs. i change mine yearly usually under 10k miles a year. might as well get some new spark plug wires while you are at it. the stock NGK wires are like $50 or so.

and change your fuel filter if you haven't.

I recently started having this exact same problem, I suspected it was related to having less torque down low after installing a dp, cb, and intake. Everything is fine if I rev the engine up when taking off, but a casual start results in shuddering. It didn't act this way before the installation. Although I wouldn't put it past the boneheads at the shop to have screwed up the TPS along with everything else that conveniently broke during the installation of the dp and springs.
