DP, MP, Racing Beat catback, No Cats or pre Cats. Anyone have?

I have just bought a 3'' Downpipe and a 3" Midpipe from Gotham racing. Now I am wanting to get a cat back before I get it tuned. Since I got the midpipe without a resonator or a highflow cat I am scared about it being to loud. I am wanting a good sounding cat back. Do you guys recommened a quiet cat back. I am thinking of geting a racing beat dual tip cat back . Does anyone have this set up and how does it sound? I dont want a ricer sound or a loud sound. Just a deep but on a quiet side sound. Any help would be great.

Tuning isnt going to help against boost creep in case you didnt know. Do some searching, theres 1000000 exhaust threads aboiut what sounds good.

even if you get a racing beat dual tip. its still going to be loud. try to get a resonated midpipe. like the rx7 store one. . i have a rbdt with a pettit resonated midpipe and its still kinda loud. but the pettit resonater is a small bullet type dat just cleans up the sound, doesnt really suppress it.

I have a HKS downpipe and Racing beat dual exhaust and I'm going to pick up a midpipe but when I got a high flow cat with my 8, the exhaust was really raspy in the 3k range, the guys on the forums said it was the transition, will this raspy "rattle" be produced in the 7 too? It sounded really bad on the 8.

Doesnt the pcf have a boost controler which will correct the boost creep?

Thomas1277 12-31-05 09:26 PM

If not that what can i do to fix this problem

Boost controllers dont stop boost creep, youd have to have the wastegate ported(it cant be ported much though) to control it

Thomas1277 01-01-06 12:03 AM

Do you guys think I will get boost creep if I keep my stock cat back and just install The downpipe and midpipe

I run a DP with hi-flow cat racing beat and pfc with no boost creep problems. Its pretty load though. Even at idle it's louder than I like and WOT it's loud enough to wake half the state.

MakoRacing 01-01-06 01:13 AM

the midpipe will cause boost creep, if you dont wanna worry about it then keep your cat, if not get the wastegate ported. Then again you can take ur chances and risk loosing ur engine, its up to you.

I have the setup you're mentioning. It's a bit loud, but nothing like a canister type catback. It's a low deep rumble at idle and would be considered tolerable by most until the second turbo kicks in. At that point though, do you care how loud it is when you're going WOT?

As far as boost creep goes, just make sure the car has the fuel tuning to handle the extra boost you are going to be seeing.

I have 3" DP, MP and the RB cat back

The car is noticeably louder with the streetport as well

its pretty loud. But its throaty loud, not ricey, high pitched loud.

If I was you I would put on the downpipe and cat back exhaust. Not the midpipe. The midpipe is what causes the problems (boost creep). It will also keep the exhaust at a lower tone.

I have used a DP, MP and the RB cat back on stock twins and a single.
I have also used a high flow cat, DP and Racing Beat with the twins.
Both setups are too loud for liking, but I think the Racing Beat is one of the quietest catbacks made.

From my recollection, I didn't notice a significant difference in noise level between the MP vs. the high flow cat.

I believe the most significant increase in noise was due to the additon of the catback and not the midpip or high flow cat. If this is true and noise level is an indication of flow then the downpipe, midpipe, stock catback configuration should not cause boost creep.

It appears some do not experience creep until you have a MP, DP and CB. I did not have boost creep with the high flow cat, DP/CB combo but did observe creep when I switched to the MP. I was able to control the creep by lowering my duty cycles on my PFC. Creep was still evident, but my target boost was maintained since the creep ramped slowly throughout the rpm range.

Did you see boost creep?

Thomas1277 01-01-06 11:04 AM

So it sounds like i should just keep the stock cat back aand put on the mp and dp. You guy recommed and anything else before i tune it? like a fuel set up or just a pump? I would like vmount intercooler but thats at lest 3 months from now. do to money.

List of mods
dp,mp,intake,Fluidyne,pfc,ast

Here is a graph of boost logged at the dyno. Keep in mind this is 14-15 psi in 4th gear, which means the turbos have more time to creep, but the boost level may be higher than what you want to run. A lower boost level may not be as easy to maintain.

using mp,dp, racingbeat cb

do you think i will have an problems with boost with dp,mp,and stock cat back?

If you mean problems with creep, I don't think so.

However, if you are getting your car tuned, I would attempt to have it tuned with the mods you are going to regularly run.

moehler 01-01-06 01:13 PM

I run a 4" Dp, midpipe and M2 dual tip exhaust and the car sounds dead sexy. Not too loud at all. In fact I had a high flow cat on the car and noticed very little difference in sound when I switched to the midpipe.... just more throaty.

crxturboh22 01-01-06 01:14 PM

I have the Exact same set-UP

HKS down Pipe, High Flow Cat, RAcing beat dual tip exhaust. no resonator no nothing... greddy intake....

crxturboh22 01-01-06 01:16 PM

steady boost.. 10-11. no spike thank God

KaiFD3S 01-01-06 02:39 PM

I am amazed how people say that this set up is loud, I am running a single with DP,MP and RB dual tip and I find mine too quiet...lol...

Thomas1277 01-01-06 07:21 PM

Sounds like I have nothing to worry about on the sound but it sounds like I have to worry about boost creep with a dp, mp, racing beat exhaust, intake, and pfc. I guess I need to do just run without the mp to be safe.
