Ebay Downpipes are hit and miss with the fitment.
Bonez from www.rx7.com has good replies as does the downpipe from Pettit Racing. Greddy/Trust and HKS also make downpipes that fit great but there is a crimp in it for the JDM cars and that has a less free flow. Prices range from ~300-400$. Pettit: http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/pettitdpfd3s.htm Bonez: http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fdexhaust.html HKS: (BTW I don't think the downpipe in the pic is the actual unit sure as heck doesn't look like my old downpipe) http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/hksdpfd3s.htm The Greddy/Trust I have only ever seen on www.rhdjapan.com I liked the fact that it is 80mm where HKS is listed as 75mm. http://www.trust-power.com/01exhaust/tr_frontpipe.html If anyone can tell me why it is (the Trust downpipe) only for 99+Spec cars I would be interested. Any one of those is better than stock. Cheers, Alex |
i have the Pettit, i like it

Does anybody know if you can pass CA smog with a downpipe and high-flow cat? Thinking about the downpipe upgrade and just wondering if I'll be needing to swap this stuff in and out for smog?
|
^ it's possible, but you are better off with the HKS (mild steel) or that Canadian (stainless steel) version since it's shaped like stock. I used to have the HKS (heat coated). Sorry, I can't remember the name but they make the hi flow metalic cat to and someone posted pics in the exhaust thread.
My friend had truoble passing with his auto and he had Tripoint hi-fl DP & cat. He passed witht he OEM cat. But there are other things that will make you fail like carbon buildup. |
I have a pettit downpipe if your interested throw me an offer in a PM

whichever DP you get, get it ceramic coated or at least wrap it with some header wrap to keep the heat out of your engine bay

m2 dp ftw! wait n/m. |
I had no problems with visual with HKS dp heat coated grey 2k. The snake head has a very rough/grainy finish similar to stock. If you get teh SS version, make shure you heat coat it. Not only to reduce temps but it will help it look OEM. Best color would be grey, then maybe black.
