Downpipe coating

Is it worth having a downpipe coated with something to help keep the heat away from the engine?
I see someone has Thermotec wrap...what is that/where doe you get it/ does it help?
Also is it worth having the pipe sent off to have it ceramic coated?
I figured I would look into this stuff *before* I installed it.
Thanks
Dave

I use www.jet-hot.com. They have coatings up to 2000 degrees and are VERY durable. I can tell ya my buddy that had a 500hp mustang, well the interior was HOT as hell. He had the entire exhaust system coated, and there was a massive difference in temperatures in the car.

I'm still looking for my FD, but when I find one I'm going to get the downpipe Jet-Hot coated if it hasn't already been coated. Header wrap works too, but it's a pain to put on and get to stay on, and if it gets oil on it -- watch out -- it will burn!!!

Can I ask how much it costed you to have your DP coated?
I am curious.

"ANY ORDER over $200, $50 off!!!
(see below for order values from $25 - $199)"

If you are only going to get your DP coated this will not be applicable as the Jet-Hot 2000 coating will cost you about $60 ($20/ft)

I think this coating is FAR superior to a thermal wrap.

Hmmm...guess you are right about not being able to use the special. Well, you could always send them the intake manifold to be coated as well. It would look really nice with Jet Hot coating and might even keep the underhood heat from contaminating the cooled intake charge :)

Here are pics of my upper intake and Y-pipe coated. Keep in mind you can NOT use this same coating for OUR exhaust. The coating we need for the exhaust doesn't have a shiny texture to it and is flat.

My Y-pipe was about $50 and my intake was about $150. I only have a gutted precat, but it's safe to assume a DP to coat will be around $50-$80.
