Door hinge stuck. Help!

On my 93 FD, the passenger door hinge all the sudden won't open all the way. The handle opens the door but it only opens about 4 inches until it binds at the hinge at the front of the door. Anyone come across this and know a fix/ what happened?

Thanks!

Torch it!

If heat doesn’t help use BP blaster or Fluid Film. No reason it should bind up if the door isn’t restricted by anything other then the hinge

There is only one way to find out what's wrong exactly ( iunno the answer )

It could be binding on the fender or something as well. Just take your time with it.

Bad door hinges aren't a common thing at all unfortunately. But, if the hinges themselves rusted up or something you can get used ones really cheap.

or something got into the door detent that holds the door open, but it is inside the door, so you'd need to get to it first. but i'd try some penetrating oil followed by white lithium grease and wipe off the excess.

people often forget that lubricating your door hinges is actually a maintenance item.

If it has a "springy" feel, then it is flexing the door hinge which is rusted together. Keep working it back and forth while using a penetrant as suggested above. If it doesn't feel "springy," it might be something else.

That's a new one...hadn't heard of stuck hinges.

Had that problem on one of our cars (I can't remember which) years ago. My FD rarely gets wet, so it won't happen there.

After checking for body panel interference and greasing the hinges I would take a close look at the door checker:

First, open the door 4 inches and check that the two bolts attaching the checker to the edge of the door are still there. Then wiggle the door back and forth a little bit to see if the black checker arm is binding. If it is the checker that is binding up you have three options. First, if there is enough room you can remove the pin attaching the checker arm to the body. Otherwise you have to remove the door card to get at the checker and figure out what ti is getting hung up on. Third and most desperate option is to just cut the black arm in two and by an new checker for about $50.
