Doing the Fan Switch Mod. Something Weird Happening...

I'm in the process of the the fan switch mod from http://rx7.voodoobox.net/howto/fanswitch/fanswitch.html
I want to do the same thing that guy did. I tapped into each of those relay wire with 2 wires. Then I connected the wires. I plan on running a wire from there onto a switch inside the car. I didn't find a switch yet, so right now I have those 2 wires connected.
Anyways, when the fans come on and I shut off the car, the fans stay on. What the heck?
Is this supposed to happen?

If the two wires are connected together then they get grounded (ie. touch some metal part of the car) then they will stay on. I wired a switch (from Radio Shack) by the crotch AC vent and it works great..only thing is you have to remember to turn it off all the time...I tried to wire a light that comes on when the fans are on and off when they are off but aparently I am too stuid to pull that off. Gud Luk

P.S. Check my sig for where I mounted my switch

The fans don't come on when the 2 relay wires are connected. They just stay on if they happen to be on before I shut off the car...

How are you turning them on if you don't have a switch?

The site says that if you connect those 2 wires, the fans will run stronger when they come on. Like if the ECU wants the fans to run on LOW, they will run MED and MED --> HIGH. I left it like this because I didn't go get a switch yet.

Ok, this is the site that I followed and it worked great for me and they still come on when the t-stat kicks them on...

Check this site

That's the site I'm using too.

Could tapping those 2 wires together cause the fans to stay on for 10 minutes after shut down?
I'm gonna have to check that out later today...

After shutdown if your temps are high (I think around 210°f) the fans will come on and stay on for a while. Mine does that.

Your FD most likely has had the fan wiring update done, so you're basically triggering the 10-minute cooldown sequence. Using the wiring setup from the voodoobox site, you'll only be able to run the fans on low with one switch; if you try to wire it for medium or high, it won't work with the car running-- it will only trigger the 10-minute sequence when you shut the car off. I haven't tried it yet, but FDjunkie told me that you cannot get the fans to run on medium until they are already running on low; in other words, the fans have be on already before they'll run on medium speed. So you need another switch (or a three-way switch) so that you can trigger the medium fan speed.

Hmmm damn.
Well when I ground one of the wires from one of the relays, the fan comes on. I think I'll stick with that for the switch.
Thanks for the info, Kento!
