Does the OMP still function when unplugged?
 

Figured I'd ask since I heard it..

I have a fresh motor and after a handfull of warmups it's smoking like James Bond..

A year ago this happened. At Idle... I started the car and it just POURED smoke out.. (Nothing unusual, but it normally would go away) I thought it was the turbos so I pulled them.. They were full of oil so I sent them off.. Figured, why not and yanked the motor too.. WELL, a year later guess what. James Bond is back. The smoke is OIL. Well, and quite a bit of gas lol.. I haven't pulled the plugs yet, but I know they're coated... Going to recheck the return line.. HOPING the oil seals/springs are ok.. never really seen many of them go.. Any think else I could check?

I guess my question is.. Will the OMP still function somewhat if unplugged? I would like to try to rule it out as being the cause of the oil overload, so I'd like to try unplugging it.. I really can't see the OMP flooding the motor with oil... But it's a new motor and never was abused before.. All new seals...

If the massive internal oil leak was coming from your OMP, and there has not been any code thrown, then unplugging won't make a difference. If there is any electrical failure in the OMP, a code will be thrown. The only way it could be dumping that much oil, would be if it was jammed open. I don't think that would be the problem, though. I also don't think the oil seals or oil control o-rings are the problem, as those tend to leak only in the upper rpm. Where were your turbos rebuilt? As shitty as it sounds, they could still be leaking.
Have you driven the car much? After a rebuild, the car is bound to smoke for a little while. Good luck, Justin.

It's a PIA in the ass but just watch the OMP tubes. That will tell you right away of the OMP is pumping too much oil in.

I'd be very surpised if it is in fact the OMP. I have neve seen an FD smoke from too much oil from the OMP. They only smoke when you suck oil through the pcv or when the turbos are dumping it out.

Thanks for the replys fellas. The turbo is a new TO4R. The motor is a large streetport rebuild. It's been at operating temp for at least 25-30 minutes once. And warmed up a bit a few other times.. It smoked a bit at first, and then went away. It came back and it a constant cloud. I haven't changes anything to cause it (That I know of), other than leaning out the idle fuel 25% from 1-2K rpms.. I figured I'd blame the OMP first, as that is the only oil related part that isn't new, and the smoke is carried over from the old 65K motor and stock twins..

I thought about the PCV, however the crankcase pressure is vented to a catchcan.. The PCV is still there, but the pressure *should* go through the other line..

I'll still check the stuff though. PCV, OMP, Return line.. And anything else anyone comes up with. :D Thanks again guys. :)

Oh, I can't watch the OMP lines as I went steel braided crazy and did those too. :p: I got the ones from Gothamracing.

Justin, do you have a wideband? If you are running really rich, then it is going to be smoking from the fuel, as well as the extra oil the OMP is spraying for the extra fuel.
I would first, just drive the car around a bit. Take it for a 20 mile trip around town. If it is still smoking, then lean out your AFRs to a normal number.

Sure dont.. But I'm working on it. I've been trying to settle down the surging idle, so haven't driven it yet.. It wants to crap out if I push the gas pedal.. Soon as I get it all worked out, I'll drive it and see what happens. :)
