Does anyone know where to get these rear fenders?
Just as it states, thanks in advance

Here's another pic.

Rice. Why not just buy a Cobra kit and a hacksaw?
|
That's Pettit's 3 rotor job right? I do agree it looks wickedly ricey... What would you need to fill those wells? 335s? Kinda defeats the purpose of the RX if you ask me (lean and mean performing machine ;) )
|
Is it this car?
http://www.pettitracing.com/Images/B...NewBanzai5.jpg If so, I e-mailed Pettit about it, and said that they make the fender flares for $300 a set. I think they look wicked. Just get some 11 or 12 inch wide rims, and some W-I-D-E tires (315mm??) to fill the fenders!!! |

Looks like it blocks the gas tank door... Hey, is that the Mazdaspeed GTC front end, or the CWest front end? |
WIDER IS BETTER?
You could get a second job paving asphalt!!!:bash:

How in the hell is making room for 335's to handle 550 hp rice? You must have a wacky definition of rice, cause to me rice is claiming/making your car look really fast, when its really slower than the John Deer I use to mow my lawn.
A 550hp rex with flared fenders is NOT rice. No matter how you look at it. Hell, that car could have a 7" exhaust tip, 4 ft. wing, and stickers covering the whole damn car and it still wouldnt be riced out. Why, becuase it will fuck almost anything it comes across on the street. |

Easy guys. 71d thanks for anwsering my question. Oh and guys the rear tires are 285 30 18s on 10 inch wide rims.

Of course, with an adjustment in offset to keep the fender/wheel lip distance the same, you could put 10in in the rear, which would be 18X10, 0mm offset. A better comprimise might be 18X11, 13mm offset, or 18X10.5, +6mm offset. As for them being 'rice', IMHO I do not think so. That would be saying that the Porsche GT2 (993) is rice too. It may be much for a street car, but looks perfectly suitable on a street/racecar with the power to match. Originally, I was going to mold the Pettit fenders into the stock body work. That would look nice, and remove the unsightly rivits - but there are issues when molding dissimilar materials together. Plus I'll never put down that kind of hp, hehe, so I'm going with something much saner.:D |
Dclin thanks for the correct info. Especially the offset stuff. Oh and hopefully I will be making anough horseeees to support those rear wheels!!:bootyshak

that thing is DYING for a spoiler...

Sooo ... stripes bad, drag RX-7 bad, front OK, flares neat, no spoiler beautiful ... rice? Maybe. He probably doesn't drive the shit out of it like he should -- that would make it all about "showing" performance, and that would make it rice. |
man you guys are analyzing it way too much,
as supercar imports go, that one is VERY clean! it's got super high power, and has been modded(visually) accordingly. You need as wide wheels/tires as you can get for optimum performance with that much power, and I doubt they'd fit in stock wheel wells. Those fender flares are really very humble, i couldnt even tell they were there until i read the post, and went looking for them. the only other body change is the front, and that bumper probably gives some kickass airflow. in any-case, that car's sweeeet. |
Cam/Pettit's car is BAD ASS
 That is FD TO THE TENTH POWER boys. Just hope it never rolls up next to ya' and you think you can take it. It is my fav car and inspired me to go Pettit ECU, DP and resonated MP, hopefully more mods to follow. Ok maybe I just want the TKT registration and floor mats ;) but that still makes an awesome street car ay? oops ps. as I recall Pettit makes two versions of the flares, one with a cutout for the gas filler. the other without means it's running a fuel cell and if you don't see the gas door and still want to a run car like that then you deserve the smack down that will follow. |
TKT Registration? Now that's rice! And if it were to roll up on me, I wouldn't care about "taking it" or not, because I don't care about straight line speed or power because the FD is not a drag car. Anyone can buy power. Anyone can drive in a straight line. My cat could do both.

Ricey?
If you're fans of RX-7s you should check out the styles, performance, and function of the rexs of many Japanese RX-7 enthusiasts. Bring their cars to your hometown, and undoubtably some will call them rice, without looking under their hood. Rice is all show and no go, or those who pose to be fast. Relax. If the car is fast, but just ugly, it ain't rice. The definition of rice is getting too broad, and the topic old. RIP |
Hehe, not trying to fan the flames anymore, but I think we all are going have a different idea of what constitutes 'good-looking'. Hell, I have the debate with my friends over good-looking females (ok, now I'm in for it:D ) and we rarely ever agree. ( to fuel another debate, it's Alley Bagget, end of discussion! :yum: )
Pettit is no stranger to curves, as that it's pretty much all they do. Picture below is of Pettit's road race car. The graphics hide the fender lines and rivets, so using your imagination you can what it would look like molded into the stock panels. Flows very well with the factory lines. I'm not too fond of the 'big chin' front bumper look, but I bet it's very functional. Anyways, molded or riveted on, RX-8 - go for it. I think it would be very nice. ;) Best of luck! |
note I never said straight line only :) also the tkt reg only applies at a certain verifiable mod equipment level it's not the same as slapping a type R sticker on. pettit has a good approach IMO, total package. let's go wicked fast straight, around turns and stopping!
|
I dunno, man ... TKT registration is lame. I mean you pay $95 for what? For a number plate and a certificate? What makes your car with those minor "mods" (there's that fucking word again) better than mine with those same "mods" from a better Japanese manufacturer just because you have some paper, plate, sticker, and your name is on a list? I know the difference -- I'm $95 richer, which I can spend on heat wrap. I don't understand the concept, the only people it will mean something to is other RX-7 owners and as an RX-7 owner I find it hilarious and very ricey. All it really says is, "I'm Pettit's bitch" or in a nicer sense, "Pettit loyal customer." (And don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Pettit at all.) Forgive me if I'm missing something ... but I know I'm not missing $95. (Oh and the straight line comments weren't directed at you, sorry!)

Those flares look like a direct copy of the Mazda factory prepped 1st gen race car that was built when the '79s were first came out. Rivets and all. That's pure race right there. Rice would be a bad bondo job and (if you're lucky) a cheap paint job to cover it up.
|
Sorry, but rice can be spending all that money to make you`r car haul ass and turn on a dime with a beautiful paint job then pop riveting or bolting on wide fenders like a bad kit car. The right way to do this on a really clean street car is by tubbing the wheel wells and bringing the suspension inboard not just the fenders outboard. How do I know this to be true? They have a pair of these fenders hanging in the International Museum of Rice. Wide bolt on fenders on a race car, not rice. Wide bolt on fenders on a nice other wise clean street car, full rice.
