Does anyone else have the same problem?
Whenever I go down gear at low speed, I get a shattering sound and feel through the car, does anyone else have this? Its something in the gearbox. The bushes/brushers in the gearbox and the arms need to be replaced? Does this annoy you if its happen? Is there a way around it lol... I down gear at a higher speeds, but its still there and I can slighty hear it...

I don't understand a lot of what you are saying, but it could well be a tranny or shifter issue.
Be more specific on how/where/when you feel/hear/see the problems. Dave |
I'm driving normal down a street... i'm coming to a corner so I slow down a bit... than a down gear from 4th to 3th, release the cluth slowly and I get shattering sound, sounds like its coming from the rear, but I can also feel the car vibrate to the shatter. This only occurs at low speed down shifts. If I didn't slow down when coming to a corner for instance, and down shift, it would only ever so slighty hear it and feel it. I spoke to a local rotary specialist, and he said it was the brushes in the gear box. Nothing to worry about but inorder to fix it, the arms need to be changed.

I think he means 'shutter' not shatter, and "bushings" not brushs or bushes.

Yes, I agree it sounds like clutch shudder aka chatter, if it only happens during the period of time where the clutch is not fully engaged. Basically it means the clutch is not slipping/grabbing smoothly. The only solution to the source is to replace the clutch and get the flywheel remachined smooth.
The gearbox has no bushings, however the motor mounts and differential bushings will make clutch shudder worse if they are bad. Bad mounts/bushings can cause the shifter to move visibly when you apply hard throttle. If you get shaking after the clutch is engaged, which isn't hard to do anytime you let off the gas suddenly and the drivetrain unwinds and winds up in the opposite direction, the problem is not the clutch, but simply driving technique. Again, if the motor mounts or diff mounts are bad then it will be worse, but it's not the source of the problem. Dave |
well i got a high pitch grinding noise at low speeds. i was told that it was my stock flywheel at the time. hope this helps.

Can you determine where the noise is originating? A poorly shimmed rear differential will cause the symptoms you describe (vibration and metal on metal grinding on off-throttle deceleration).

Bump from the dead.
My friends FD makes a lot of chattering noise when the clutch isn't engaged. Even in neutral, if the clutch is out, it makes a lot of racket. please advise? |
