Do you need the pcv valve and line when using a oil catch can?

Thanks

yes. the PCV acts as a check valve to keep the system from being pressurized by boost pressure.

Yes and no. Depends on how you hook it up.

First off, the stock PCV valve can be ditched. Mazda removed it in '95, just remove it and cap the nipple on the oil neck and the intake manifold. This leaves the second nipple on the oil neck that points downwards which routes to the primary turbo intake.

If it's a sealed catch can, you can put it in that line going from the oil neck to the turbo inlet. If it's a vented catch can with a small breather filter on the top, just run the line straight to the catch can and cap the turbo inlet.

I've been running a vented catch can for about 4 years with no worries. I just empty it on oil changes.

Sweet. Thanks Dale. I'm running a vented catch can so no PCV valve for me. Now if I only can get my engine to fire up.

Almost done with the single turbo project minus tuning.

I also run mine exactly like what dale stated (vented and no PCV). No issues, and it has been that way for over a year.

Who needs a catch can... I just run a hose off my filler neck to the bottom of the car :D.

Get rid of the PCV. It doesn't work well on modified cars and tends to dump oil into the intake. Cap the nipples where the pcv was on the filler neck and the intake manifold. Run a hose from the other nipple on the filler neck to a catch can. Either vent the catch can or run another hose to the air filter. Don't vent it under the car. It will make a huge mess on the bottom of the car and you will be banned from any track if they catch it.

What track....

The only time I tracked my car was when it had PCV. It broke and since I just DD my car I ran a hose for a temp solution.

When I`m finished my current build I`ll have a can. No worries :D
