Do you guys think this is possible (rear wiper)?
 

Has any one installed a rear wiper assembly on a hatch that didnt have it before.?Im just asking cause its really bothering me when i drive and the rain drops just sit on the hatch from being so slanted. I was thinking it would be a good idea to install one but i dont know if it would be worth all the trouble ..
I guess id have to drill the hatch and get a new wiper lever by the steering wheel there but i dont know about wiring. Would i have to run it all the way to the back or is it there already.?

Anyways if anybody has done this before and can share their thoughts id appreciate.

that rear hatch glass is designed to wipe the rain away by the aerodynamics

if you're driving and it starts raining, nothing will hit that glass until you stop

Yeah thats what i do. Its just that sometimes you drive on state roads with some traffic lights and the water always just sits there .. And then i gotta do like youre saying go faster but still. It helps but doesnt wipe it all you know

you also have to take into consideration that not having the rear wiper is one of the OEM specs that separates an R-1 from the rest of the models

I have the same thing.... I use rain x... no problems...
I use Invisible glass Spray to clean the glass first (http://www.invisibleglass.com/).... u can get it at any auto store... but use a News paper instead of tissue or rag.. It sounds crazy but my grand pops showed me.... News paper to clean the glass...(works like a charm).. then the rainX as a coating when your done...

Make sure u use the rainX as directed... or else it will leave streaks

Yeah i'll give rainX a try. My old man taught me the news paper trick too. Its also good to suck mositure outta the interior of the car.. Leave it sitting there for a couple of days and no more foggy windows!! Stuff is good .

I also have an motor and blade if you need one. I don't know if anyone has any write-ups on installing one because most of us don't drive in the rain and we have the rear wiper removed....well, that's what I did ;)

I guess the first thing is to get the electrical diagram mapped out. Then, cut a hole in the hatch and install the motor by looking at the FSM....that's how I would do it. Find a way to mount the switch inside or find another multi-function switch....

I would try to trade someone a rear hatch with a wiper for yours. Im sure there are tons of people that would love to do so. I've never heard of anyone going from no wiper to wiper (Im thinking of doing this to). Its always been the other way around.

if you want to use wiper fluid for the rear wipers, you have to hook something up in the back. If you look at your trunk, there is a circular thing that is supposed to hold the wiper fluid for the rear window. If your gonna do the job do it right eh?

I have noticed that by and large, the entire wiring looms are in place regardless of if you have a certain option or not. I would suspect that the wires already exist for that rear wiper....though I may be mistaken.

Yeah thats what i think. I dont know why mazda would run two different harness on the same model .. I mean it would be covered by the trim piece on the hatch anyways. At least thats what i think.
And why do people choose to get rid of their rear wipers? Is there any improvements in doing that?
I may just trade my hatch with someone if i find a black one in good conditon ..
I dont know tho just thinking of the headache its gonna be makes me want to quit it already, (like always actually)

hell yeah! washer fluid in the back would be the balls!

I would just use Rain-x. Much easier than trying to install a wiper or swapping hatches. Granted you have to reapply it every so often but I still think it's the better option. Most people get rid of it because they don't use it, gets rid of a little weight (not much though), or think the car looks better without it.

why not just trade hatches with someone. i know i would be glad to.

2/3 of all US FDs came with rear wipers. You're lucky enough to have one which is wiperless. If you don't like it, trade with someone else...

don't forget the interior trim panel is different as well...it has a big buldge for the motor to fit behind......

as for the wiring...i dont know if mazda smartened up...but for my FC, all the wiring was there for every accessory EXCEPT the rear wiper/washer....and i was forced to run my own wires....

just something to think about before you go and swap thinking the wires are there only to find there not....just check first
