The R1/2 and touring models (stock) will be worth more in the future than the base. Once modded, it depends on the mods, and what someone is willing to pay... just like the Barrett Jackson stock vs. hot rod muscle car situation today.

I really had no preference other than condition. I have a touring now and I love it. I don't really like the sunroof but I dont hate it either. If I had to choose between models I would go with the R1... but you get whats available and just enjoy it.

When I bought the car (6 years ago) I actually went out of my way to find a touring model. I think the sunroof is an AWESOME feature to have on the car especially considering how small the car itself is. I'm an averagely sized guy, but I still feel cramped in the car when the windows are all up. I'm happy with my decision and at this point in time, aside from the sunroof and the lack of the oil cooler, you wouldn't be able to tell what model it is ;).

I like having leather seats. I dont like the look of the cloth or suede seats.

I also like having a sunroof...and cruise. Bose is a waste and I wish I didnt have it

I like the sunroof and the cruise control. I've upgraded the rest for performance and the leather is going soon. Turing's fine for me.

I've had both base and touring models. I prefer the extra headroom in the base model.

hmm, not exactly. I think the US touring models only have 1 oil cooler, and no front strut brace. They do have sunroof, bose stereo, leather, rear wiper, and usually a spoiler, but not always (my touring was spoilerless until I put one on)

Don't like tourings because of the sunroof, leather, rear wiper, and bose.
Don't like R1/R2 because of the spoiler (but somehow ended up buying 2 of them).

I personally would prefer a base model but I can never find a clean low mileage one.

I just bought a bone stock 93 Base with only 29000 miles on it a few months ago and love it. Although I would have taken any model I like the seats and no sunroof in the base.

I can tell there are a bunch of speed/track/racing junkies here. The sunroof rocks IMO. Its nice having it up with all the windows down while cruising on a nice mild day. You def get a bit of that roadster feel. I know it gets cramped due to the lower headroom (im 6'1"), but thats how its supposed to be. Its a proper sports car. If i wanted comfort and practicality i wouldnt be driving an FD3S. For me; touring with 2 oil coolers is the way to go.

Whenever I looked around for FDs, I wanted to think the R1/R2 was the car for me since we sometimes like to trick ourselves into thinking we're awesome drivers that will constantly track the car. I happened to luck out and find a red 93 touring with low miles not too far from my house, a near impossible feat in Kansas which was exactly what I was looking for. While there are plenty here that are dedicated to that and quite good at competitive racing, I don't like to lie to myself about stuff like that. Sure I'm better than your average soccer mom but that's not saying much. This car is far too much for me to handle in anything other than a straight line so I'm content spending the time to better handle the car at the limits.

Yeah, I know the sunroof adds about 60-70lbs of dead weight in the worst possible part of the car but I don't care, I love it. Having a Miata for a daily driver, I needed something to let a little sky in while driving. Yes, the Bose adds about 35lbs of garbage in various parts of the car (mostly behind the rear axle), it does sound awesome (disclaimer: only in comparison to the Miata's Bose setup).

The truth is, most of us are not good enough to notice a few extra pounds on the track and many hours of practice would be needed for the extra weight to become a limiting factor. Basic mods will get you in the neighborhood of 300bhp and even at touring weights, that is a very wicked power/weight ratio.

I love the sunroof also but i want alittle of everything. I wish i had the suspension, dual oil coolers, and seats or the r1. My car already has no wing, rear wiper and no bose.

I think the base seats are the best of the three. They are sweet, no sliding very comfortable, and much more durable than the leather or faux suede.

I however could do without the sunroof. In the AZ sun it lets in too much heat, and with a helmet on I have to "ganster lean" the seat to fit in the car without hitting my head on the roof (I'm 6'2"). I also love the sexy look of the true "double bubble" roof you get on the non-sunroof cars. A total trend setting feature that was later copied by the Viper GTS and the Corvette hard tops...

Have to have the second oil cooler! My car is such a hodge-podge of the best I saw in each model. I guess that is what makes me feel proud of putting it together. Hopefully it is on the road here in the VERY near future!
