Do I need to use lock washer on the bolts for the flywheel.

I am doing to auto to manual swap so I had to go buy the bolts. Do I use lock washers and locktite or just loctite? Thanks in advance.

someone answer this PLEASE :)
im bolting mine back up in a few days...I would like to know if I should be using loctite on it..

BRADYMAHONEY 03-09-04 12:03 PM

I am talking about the bolts that hold the pressure plate on. :)

mad_7tist 03-09-04 04:30 PM

yes

As I recall, there were no lock nuts when I removed the pressure plate. Lock nuts were not provided with the new flywheel.

So I have one yes. :)

i recommend a good lockwasher if there is physical room for it and make sure you use a torque wrench, hardened bolts and torque them in increments in a crossways fashion. there really is no need for loctite in my opinion. you certainly are welcome to use it but i never used it on my pressure plate bolts in 22 years of racing. BTW, there is much much less vibration w a rotary vs a piston engine... OTH, i would use it on the flywheel to eccentric shaft.

I think I will use the lock washers and no locktite.

I just got my tranny back on after doing the auto to manual swap, wasnt thinking of lock washers at the time. Should i be fine or should i tear everything apart and get lock washers?

BRADYMAHONEY 04-27-04 06:04 AM

You should be fine as long as you torqued everything to spec. :)

OKRX-7 04-27-04 08:49 AM

You don't use lockwashers on torqued parts. Thats why your supposed to use a torque wrench, at the proper torque setting it will hold.

I just replaced my clutch and the bolts had lockwashers on them and I believe they were grade 10 bolts. The shop manual didn't call for loctite but the bolts do need to be torqued properly.
