do I need a new motor?
 
:confused: Im having some problems, need some suggestions. I was following my friend in his supra. We passed someone. About 80 my car felt wierd. My knock sensor on the comander was showing 110, I let off. Now the car idles kinda rough, and has less low rpm power than before. Vaccuum on my boost gauge hopps from 5 to 9, when the car gets boost the neddle flutters as it climbs. The car boost fine but boost late. My mods are street ported motor (21,000 miles,) apexi intake, downpipe, highflow cat, highflow muffler, bov, apexi power fc (base mod map-15psi,) walbro 255lph pump, and a greddy 3core smic.

yeah.. you will need a new motor...

Might want to check the head gaskets though, I heard those fail quite often on these unreliable POS cars....

I dont think it has head gaskets, it's a rotary, now can i get a response from someone who's not a complete retard

The only way to know is to do a compression test. You can use a standard tester and just remove the check valve for the test. It won't be 100% accurate, but it will let you know if you have even compression on all three faces of each rotor.

It only takes a few minutes to do the test and you can probably rent a tester from Autozone or another auto shop.

IMO, I would do that first before tearing everything down for a vacuum leak. While it might be just a blown off vacuum line, it would suck to spend hours looking for a vacuum leak which might not exist. Spend your time wisely.

He said the car boost fine, but just late. If the car is making any boost, the MAP sensor is hooked up.

Sorry Mahjik, but that is not true. It is totally possible to boost with the MAP sensor disconnected. When my MAP sensor hose blew off the first time, I could still boost, but the car ran like shit. It's dangerous because the ECU sees atmospheric pressure from the MAP sensor (0 psi) when in reality, there is more than that in the manifold. Beyond a certain point, it won't even ignite any more, but you can detonate the hell out of your motor by doing this.

Boosting fine is another story. ;)

I think I have the same problem!!!! Sahky Idle...almost like a V8. When it boosts...the needle is shaky all the way up...I took it to a few people but they told me right off the bat...."you need an engine". I had it compression tested and it has 150 compression...so I ono what it could be....can someone give me any ideas/help/suggestions...and YES I have searched threads like crazy...before I get hammered about it...

thanks for the help, I am going to take it to the dealer tomorrow and let them do the compression test. Atleast I will have a starting point. Im going to sell this damn car and buy a supra.

The stock ECU retards the car more than enough that it doesn't have a problem with detonation with the MAP sensor disconnected (I remember that day 6 years ago when that line first fell off for me). Though, I have yet to hear of anyone losing an engine from popping the MAP sensor line.

However, I'm not sure what the PFC would do since it ignores most of the stock sensors.

I will say that I had very similar sypmtoms to this guy in September this year. Vacuum lower and unsteady, engine idling badly but once in the upper revs it smoothed out, still making boost. Compression test revealed low compression on the front rotor. This is also why I don't believe the MAP sensor hose is the problem in this case. However, for his sake, I hope it is something that simple.

should have sold it before you blew the motor, now you can get only a few g's for it. That is, if you blew the motor.

I took the car to the dealer for the compression test. Apex seal in rear rotor blew. Aint that a B*%^$.
